There was something about this on bbc news site maybe a couple of months ago. It's seems there is a fair number of people who sleep in two stages rather than 1 continuous stretch.
I think I am similar, in fact I woke up about 4am this morning, went for a slash and back to bed. Sometimes it takes a while to fall asleep again. The article highlighted that some people get up and do something in this period like reading, doing a puzzle book, even going out for a walk, then returning to bed and sleeping again before waking up for the next day.
So it just seems like tv is your 'thing'.
Go to bed at 04:01, problem solved!

I do that and still consistently wake up to have a slash at 3am every night.Go to the toilet before going to sleep.
We often worry about lying awake in the middle of the night - but it could be good for you. A growing body of evidence from both science and history suggests that the eight-hour sleep may be unnatural.
Recent studies have shown that breaking up your sleeping hours is actually good for you
