Any tips to stop waking up at 4am?

I find if I get fresh air during the day, I sleep a lot better at night. Not the easiest thing to do during the week, but even a half hour walk at lunchtime or in the evening can be enough.

embrace your insomnia and use it to your advantage, do you play golf? get a glow in the dark golf ball and play where ever you want free of charge!

I'd love some tips for helping this too. I'm in my 5th week straight of this happening where I wake up roughly 2-3 times a night.

Mine however is more than likely caused by medication (Dasatinib).

I've tried Camomile tea but that hasn't helped one bit lol. Relaxing an hour before sleeping doesn't seem to have done anything either. Determined not to have to resort to any kind of sleeping medication.

There was something about this on bbc news site maybe a couple of months ago. It's seems there is a fair number of people who sleep in two stages rather than 1 continuous stretch.

I think I am similar, in fact I woke up about 4am this morning, went for a slash and back to bed. Sometimes it takes a while to fall asleep again. The article highlighted that some people get up and do something in this period like reading, doing a puzzle book, even going out for a walk, then returning to bed and sleeping again before waking up for the next day.

So it just seems like tv is your 'thing'.

This used to be common practice some time ago.

Go to the toilet before going to sleep.
I do that and still consistently wake up to have a slash at 3am every night.

OP, stop watching tv in bed, it screws up your REM sleep.
Also, buy some earplugs, even the noise of your own snoring can disturb sleep.

I also find a glass of wine can improve your sleep sometimes, small glass of red a couple of hours before sleeping.

have you had any significant event at that time in the morning?

like being taken from a war zone? or losing a relative in a horror smash?

or maybe just the milkman with his milkfloat? mothers favourite.

anyway, be wary, very wary, it could be someone from the other side, warning you of an impending intruder, wanting to use you corpse for 'special things'

sleep well :p

I do find that when waking up in the middle of the night the best thing to do is get up, be it going to the toilet, getting a glass of water, whatever. Just don't toss and turn trying to get back to sleep, as it just gets me slightly angry, making it take all the longer.

Failing that, I tend to listen to some soft music lying in the bed in the dark before hitting the hay, or some really relaxing video, such as someone receiving a massage. Better still, find a local homeless person to give you a massage in exchange for a sachet of sugar or a teabag.

I used to wake up between the hours of 4am and 6am every night, without fail. Seems to have stopped though since I moved into my new house 2 months ago. Never found out what caused it.... Maybe my previous house was haunted. Was also the same with the house before the last... maybe both houses were haunted
