Hi there,

I'm currently trying to sort out an issue for a work colleague. He has recently had a shed built in his back garden which he intends to use as a home office.

His router is located quite some distance from where he proposes to work, and the signal quality is very poor. Is there a device which could be purchased to ampliy or repeat the wifi signal.

The router he is currently using is a D-Link DSL 27408. This router has three antennae attached to it in its standard configuration.

I have seen a website purporting to sell more powerful antennae. If I was to purchase one of the said antennae, would I need to replace all three of the antennae on the router with more powerful ones, or could I get away with replacing just one of them?

Cheers

You could just replace one of them (make sure that the the socket fitting is the same).

The best thing to do would be to get a directional antenna at both ends of the wireless. You can use cheap ones or even 'wokfi' at one end (google or search this forum).

Use a Cantena and Wokfi Works a charm got my wireless shared to a mate 8 doors down from me using this method :)

So am I right in assuming that it would be possible for me to purchase one of these access points, place it halfway between the wireless router and where my colleague wants to work and let it effectively boost the signal.

Would one of these devices be able to connect to an existing wireless network and act as an access point without having to be cabled to the main router via ethernet?

If his shed is on the same power mains, could also give homeplug a look :)

Unfortunately I doubt that this will be an option. He is having a seperate consumer unit fitted to the shed. I assume this is so that work can foot the bill.
