Any WoW old schoolers?

I joined in the very final days of Vanilla. I kept making characters, leveling them to about lvl 30 - 40 and then deleting it and starting over. I got my first character to lvl 60 a matter of days before TBC launched, which worked out quite nicely :D

Been playing almost solidly ever since, apart from one 9 month break between TBC and Wrath, when I got bored with the end game content. Almost reached that stage again now in Cata, though I'm bravely hanging on by at least doing my JC daily quest each day while I wait for MoP to launch.

I played since Vanilla and Vanilla + TBC were the best expansions in terms of difficulty and community wise & I'm still playing till this day.

Will be picking up MoP and playing it alongside GW2 ;)

I played quite a lot at release then would resub every 5 or so months once the expansions started coming out. I last subbed about 4 months ago and I'm quite sure I won't be returning. I guess I want to relive the experience I used to get from that game during the early days but that's gone forever.

I miss openworld PvP the most. Contested questing areas were the most amusing. 30-40 horde and alliance fighting outside tarren mill not for experience or rewards, just because it was fun. I still remember my first kill with my rogue in ashenvale :)

I've played WoW on and off since beta.

Generally it's gotten worse with time, as Blizzard slowly dumb the game down to appeal to the mindless labotomised ape generation that would normally sit on Call of Duty all day.

But it's easier to get so you CAN get into raids. People that raid don't need to constantly hit heroics as much as people that don't for gear.

So you don't see the previous raids (or at least out-gear them to the point where it's not even a slight challenge and no fun) and miss half the content in the current expansion.

I'm not sure I really see that as a benefit tbh. I enjoy seeing all the content in an expansion. I think one of the things with TBC was that you could get *some* gear that'd help you catch up and not be completely useless in raids, but it still had a natural progression through T4, T5 and T6.

The other thing is that Naxx was HARD. Nothing has had the challenge of that since. I did it at lvl70 with a few guilds on my realm that were raiding T6 content and it was still hard. We got to Saph but sadly it was while there was the glitch where when you hit behind an ice block, that stupid OP spell still hit and even with our massive health pools, we'd still all get 1 shotted.

It does seem Blizzard's reputation amongst PC gamers has been in general decline over the past few years (correlation with their activision merger perhaps?). They used to be make bloody great games using original IP and consequently made a lot of money doing so. Now it seems they're just relying on old IP to make as much money as possible. They're a big business, I understand they exist to make returns for shareholders, but their games have suffered because of it. Seeing just how deeply the real-money auction house was ingrained into how Diablo 3 worked made this very clear.

I played just before TBC, it was epic. I really enjoyed the game when it was Vanilla, and the TBC. Tried to get back into it with WotLK but couldn't. Think the buzz wore off for me.

Played since BC. There's still a good game there If you're in a good guild. I don't like the dumbing down of the game that has happened though. And the nerfs to raid content happen far too soon after patch release. Dragon Soul was lacklustre.

Played vanilla. Levelling a paladin was fun. Refreshing seal of command every 30 seconds.

Not played since a few months after Catacylsm was released.

pretty much what he said.

played since beta, stopped at ICC PTR. it went down hill after Sunwell( Muru pre nerf >>>>>>>>>> anything since :))

will prob take alook at Mists former guild is reforming as a 10 man Casual, but tbh i have tried to get back into it before, as "casual" never really takes for me ;) :D

Played on and off from release till I finished ICC, however the game wasn't very fun at that point and apparently it has only gotten worse so yeh not even thought about re-subbing.

Nax in vanilla was a lot of fun though, and it wasn't just nostalgia. Killing pre-nerf Four Horsemen in vanilla was one of my most memorable moments in gaming.

a lot of people do get all misty eyed and look upon vanilla and tbc with rose tinted specs but a lot of that is with good reason. A quick jot down on what I liked about vanilla and tbc:

*World pvp was alive and kicking and due to this the world felt alive and vibrant.
*The lore was so much better during this period too.
*Questing wasn't so 'on rails' as it is now, you actually had a choice of what quests you wanted to do in each zone if you wished, and because of this there were some truely epic quest chains.
*Class quests!
*The classes actually all felt very different, homoganisation hadn't become the norm.
*Talent trees / points every level, I know some didn't like this but for me (and many like me), the freedom that the old system offered was a cut above the locked in abomination thats on offer now and coming in Mists.

Essentially you had choices, or an illusion of choice, that is no longer true. Choice is king in MMO's and for me it's no surprise that as Blizzard have whittled away those choices the player base have voted and left their game.

I started in beta and quit shortly after clearing all of Ulduar Hard Modes and Algalon. Came back when Cataclysm launched and cleared everything but quit before the Firelands patch arrived.

Something like 600-700 days /played over my chars.

I did casual all the way up to hardcore Top 10 Worldwide raiding so had my fill :)

I miss Sunwell Plateau in a top 10 worldwide guild where the content was sanity breaking hard and AQ40 with the likes of C'Thun where I swear I had heart issues when we finally got the kill. Nothing has really provided as much enjoyment and satisfaction kill wise than those 2 raids.

I'm always tempted to go back but have resisted the urge :D I am really hoping Blizzard's project Titan is 1 - An MMO 2 - What WoW used to be with new IP

I would link some old nerd screams from kills that you will NEVER get again in WoW but they have some...fruity language. If you search for LR vs Kil'jaeden on the Tube there is a double scream at 12:00 onwards, Kill + World First Legendary bow drop :D Good times :(

ive played up to cata

vanilla was my favorite to play.

tbc 2nd

wotlk was ok

cata i dont think i even hit level cap

everything is given on a plate now. in vanilla you earned every single item.

I do miss the clashes between tarren mill and southshore, used to have so much fun with those battles :D.
Played from beta until about eighteen months ago, tried it a couple of times but just cant be bothered any more. Having said that, I'd jump at the chance to play on a vanilla pre expansion server. I know rose tinted specs probably account for a lot of the nostalgia but I'd love the opportunity to properly experience all that again.

Oh the merger with Activision has had a definite effect on Blizzard. All the vanity pets, fancy mounts etc. that you can buy for extra money - that's something straight out of scumbag Kotick's playbook.

The moment they make it "pay to win" i'm quitting for absolute good.

I would love a time locked progression server (pre-cata world) ala EQ's fippy darkpaw server with appropriate mechanics/talents. Pretty much the only thing that could get me back to WoW now, hell its probably the only thing that could get me into sub based MMO's again.
