Anybody else out there who can't stand online gaming?

I really wish the old times of mp would come back, where there were actual communities and it felt like there was for the most part some chivalry involved. Now its just a load of gobby dicks, judging by the way most kids act on the street these days is it any wonder its filled with idiots.

I really enjoy online gaming. I wasn't really that into online gaming, or PC gaming in general until I discovered my first MMO in 2005.

It's the communities I dislike. The level of anonymity during online gaming, and being online in general, means that most people think it's okay to act like complete morons. It's hard to find a game where people are actually civil to other players. I don't recall a single game I have played recently which has had a friendly community, including World of Warcraft, Battlefield 3, League of Legends and Starcraft 2.

I'm not saying all of the communities are bad, however. I know it's only a select few people that ruin it, but it's generally those times that stick in your memory more than the others.

I hate online gaming! I have no interest in doing and would rather enjoy an engrossing single player mode. Then there is the subscriptions you have to pay for some games the list goes on and on....

So anybody else out there who like me doesn't like online gaming?

Stoner81.

PS - I would have created a poll but I don't have those options :(

Uhhh... for most games, online is the only place I can find a challenge... single player seems to always be so darn easy (with the exception of BF3 - it wasn't a "challenge" - you just die stupidly easily and the scripting is annoying).

Bring on many more multi-player campaign style games...

Online gaming has changed so much. Played MMO's for over ten years and back in the day you could meet 'nice' new people almost all the time. Yeah you had your idiots back then but most people knew them by name and avoided them. Fun times for all!

Suddenly (and I blame WOW for this) the mass market discovers MMO's and the idiots flock in. Now it's a case of there are no nice people because they are all hiding and can't be heard amongst the sea of garbage that spews from the general chat.

Had the same experience on consoles, been on Xbox Live for pretty much 9 years and back then you left your game room public, people would chat and be friendly, again you'd have a few idiots but they were just that - a few. These days if I do go online with randoms, I need voice set to friends only!

Maybe I'm getting old, but these days I prefer coop (with friends) and single player games.

Online gaming is great, playing a modern fps with kiddies who don't understand the "unwritten rules of fps games" can be annoying.

For instance they don't understand you're not meant to kill people who are typing!

I will never be good at online rts, the people who play carefully read about build orders and so on.

I just want to play casually :(

Tried online, and sporadically re-try it, but it's not for me.

I tend to look for a good AI that impresses me, but multiplayer to me is a lot of developers getting off lightly by not having to program any AI at all. Lazy.

Also I just can't believe how good some people are and, for instance, finish a race in Trackmania in under 2! seconds, according to the scoreboards. Somehow I don't think I'll ever be that good.

I do admit though it's fun listening to a 12-year-old pitching a fit because someone doesn't call him 'Sir' in Battlefield.

I don't see how it's lazy, as good netcode is also a very hard thing to get right.

I love Left 4 Dead 2 online, its the only multiplayer game I play.

Unfortunately though, I don't really know many people who game as guess i'm a bit older than the bulk of the gaming crowd so have to join public games.

That means I get a mixed bag of the odd decent guy and loads of clowns who tend to want to have generic R&B or rap blaring through their mic (god I hate anything R&B, all todays stuff sounds the same, i'm sounding like my dad now!).

Can see the attraction of playing with people you know, that'd be cool on L4D.

I love online gaming in MMORPG's but have never enjoyed online games such as CoD etc.

Not exactly sure why other than I've never found the same sense of community you get with a MMO.
