There are a lot of weirdos amongst the il-2 community.

It's the only community I know of which has a massive anti-modding contingent. Some of the major forums completely ban any talk of modding like OCUK ban talking about their competitors. I think their mentality is that mods will divide the already small online community and limit the number of people to play against online.

I expect there's quite a few il2 players out there who've never used steam, and are still forming their opinions from what people though of it at the beginning (when it was crap).

I think Steam is great BUT I always worry when a single company has such a hold on any market. As I also like Impulse, D2D and GreenManGaming it would be nice if they gained a larger share of the market. Might lead to even better deals for us customers too. ;)

I use it and i'm happy to use it. I only ever buy stuff in the sales though, usually when its 75% off or more.

Steam is good now, when first out I was dubious but now its taken over where M-Player and Gamspy fell down, its the community that carries the platform and sells the games. Gamespy became rubbish populated by agument seeking idiots and killed by subscription charges and M-player just died a long time ago and was swallowed by Gamespy.

Steam....very useful and a good tool, people are slating the deals but.....why?! Yes some are shocking but every now and then they do wow you with some really cheap weekend offers, HL2 ep2 was about £2.50 a couple of week ago.....why would anyone complain about that?

I am happy with it been using it for years.

I am one of the small minority, that quite simply have no use for steam, I just don't game enough for it.

Not to mention, I wasn't overly impressed with it in the beginning and though it may be much better now, my brain still tells me to leave it alone and don't poke it..

I'll stick to proper disks for a while more..

I love steam, but i understand why some dont need it, a friend of mine who players WoW only uses steam to talk to people and organise games through the community.

I don't see how anybody can regard Steam as a bad thing.

the only thing i don't like about steam is that hard copies can't be sold on if they use steam. i tend to buy games with the intention of selling them once completed in a week or whatever. i don't like to pay full price now for a game that will last little time and then just sit on a shelf.

i understand this is my issue so i wouldn't say i hate steam for it though i do wish hard copies could still be sold on. i will simply wait for deals or nothing at all now if the game isn't an ultimate game that i'll get plenty of use out of such as skyrim and bf3

Whilst I have the same ideals (and have used multiple distribution clients), I've actually paid for a few games twice - just so I can have them on Steam after I've bought them on alternatives (eg EA-DM) before being released on Steam. Mirror's Edge and Burnout Paradise being two examples - not available on Steam (or prohibitively expensive), bought on EA-DM, bought again on Steam later.

In all fairness, if Steam (and no other equally large/viable alternative) was never invented, PC gaming as a whole would be much smaller than it currently is. Whilst I'm no sycophant, we can all view Valve/Steam as the saviour of PC gaming imo.
