Hmm..well, the only reason i use it is because 54 of my games are on Steam. I dont find it so intrusive or terrible these days that it would stop me from using it, so I need it for Valve's games, Fallout new vegas, and all of the games bought dirt cheap in the steam sales.

I'm happy to have it installed and use it, and I certainly feel like the product i'm getting at the end of the day is worth the price I pay. So yes in that respect I'm a happy steam user. :)

I didn't like it the beginning but now I love it. I'm pretty bad at keep my stuff organize and with steam I don't have worry about scratching or losing my discs.

at the start (old 56k days) steam was god awful, no though it's brilliant.

I haven't had a dvd drive in my pc for months :p

Never used it as I'd rather have a physical copy at the moment, but I'm bot against and will probably use it at some point in the future.

i was a bit dubious of it at first but now i love it, 80+ games on there & no damn discs cluttering the place up any more.

to be fair you can put your steam games on disk/spare hhd/usb anything you want for back up.

Only thing I hate about it is the premium prices on new AAA titles, although often I will still buy it on steam for the instant availability, will download quicker than I can pick up and buy, auto updates, backup capability is simple and easy.

I sort of know someone who, until Magicka (were talking years now) refused to use steam and was unable to come up with a straight answer, or an answer at all for that matter as to why.
The only reason I assume anyone wouldn't use it is they are having compatibility issues, crashes, BSOD's etc, otherwise they are hating it irrationally.

I don't understand why people say "I'd rather have a physical copy" when you can do so with steam back ups, download, backup, physical and digital copy achieved, I guess they just don't know?

That confirms pretty much what I thought, thanks all :)

Trust me man. It's the il2 community..... not pc gamers as a whole. They're based around a game which is 10 years old now. Sure there have been updated versions released, but the core game is ancient..... there are a lot of dinosaurs in the community.

I've installed that game on 3 different rigs since it was released..... I expect there are quite a few running it on a system of similar spec to the first rig I installed it on (in 2001).

Love it for its ease of use, great stability, great deals, connectivity with friends but hate it for taking all my money. Damn you Steam and your seductive store!

I don't use it but I wouldn't refuse to.

Got to admit I admire their Reggie Perrin's Grot like model of late. You know, the one where they sell loads of useless crap to people who will never use it. Pure genius. ;)

The product is great and I buy far too much off it, I do have concerns about having a Steam monopoly, and what would happen if Valve just shut down or sold to EA or something. Gabe Newell must be a very very rich man now.

I use steam and I'm quite happy with it. The main bonus of it for me is auto updating my games. Very frustrating getting a game then spending 30 minutes finding patches. Some games are a bit pricey though.

I'm guessing IL 2 is not just on Steam, you can go out and buy it, so I don't understand why folk are whining about that.

It's the new Cliffs of Dover that is causing all the grief, from what we know it's going to use Steamworks for multiplayer and stuff and by the looks of things will require steam regardless of retail or download aquisition.

It's caused lots of people to have coronaries for some reason that appears to be circa last decade.
