..it would be nice if they gained a larger share of the market. Might lead to even better deals for us customers too. ;)

Unlikely. Monopolies tend to drive up prices, less competition.

a). Use steam, love steam. Can't remember the last time I bought a game in store.

Yes, I came across that issue with my retail version of Borderlands, was a little annoying. The only other thing I dislike and it's mega petty is having to log into steam before I can play my games, always seems to take ages even though it's just seconds :)

set it to auto login on windows start up?

Hmmm, yet quite clearly the image shows a physical ring bound book, I dread to think of the anger issues that will cause if it turns out to be in game rather than real...

i am quite happy steam user but at one moment last year after fail transaction from paypal , steam blocked my steam account , it took 1 month to get it back , so i was not happy at steam i think they have to remake there policy , in case something like this happens to someone else.

Been with it since it first came out (2002?) - almost killed the TFC clan I was in it was so horrible and slow at first but we all muddled through.

Now though it is just great. Love Valve, love Steam.

sounds right, try to scam them (from their perspective you took an item then took the money back) and they block your account till you pay/sort it out.

I have one major issue with Steam, and it's a rather esoteric one: I hate the fact that they don't sell you the game, they sell you the Steam version of the game. If I buy a Steam version, and the company that makes the game produces an expansion, I have to get that via Steam or it won't work. Similarly, if I bought the original the old-fashioned way then I can't buy the expansion from Steam unless I buy a new copy of the original. I hate the fact that Steam locks me in: they should just be one source of many. I really don't care one way or another about their version of DRM and whether it's great or not - but I won't buy any version of a game which is not fully kosher.

M

Steam has stopped me buying some games that required Steam to play. Because I want to be able to loan games to friends after I've finsihed, or sell them second hand.

It's about time people stopped talking about buying games on Steam as that's not really a good description. It's more like a long term rental or licensing.

Wow I'm in the minority.

I hate steam, can't see the point in it. I bought COD:BO not long ago and was very disappointed to see I needed Steam to use it.

I mostly play COD4 with no need for steam.

Ok in the beginning Steam was not so great... but now there is no reason why not to use steam,

You could live in Uni halls and can't play any new games cause they require online steam activation and the halls blocks everything.

Steam is good when you have internet, but too many times while travelling or in uni halls where I have put steam in offline mode I have been bitten by "Operation cannot be completed in offline mode!". Steam is more hassel than good for me.

I prefer to have DVD versions, I can mostly decide if I want to patch it or not, I can also uninstall a rogue patch easier and I can sell on some of the games afterwards

Games get bigger all the time in terms of download size, what about the large numbers of us who don't have high speed internet or get capped when trying to download 6 gig or more ?
Is it also a way to prevent you selling on your games which you can do with most DVD versions although of course some games now tie you to an internet log in with both versions

You never asked the halls it folks if they could let you use steam?
