Anybody use a NAS box ?

Cheapest 4 port I've seen with 256MB RAM is £240 (PCI-Express, sorry, not sure what this uses but likely PCI-X or some proprietory bus) which was a Promise SuperTrak EX4xxx - can't remember. PCI-X cards are slightly cheaper at about £200-220 but yeah - WOW - I'd buy the thing just to steal the Intel RAID card!

I've put a call in to Thermaltake this morning regarding the above enclosure. No pricing available yet but I will get something ASAP.

Great thanks :)

Can you also find out if it hardware or software RAID?

i've got a 250gb S-ATA drive sat here doing nothing

i was looking at the Synology Disk Station DS-106e NAS Enclosure that supports SATA 1/2

anybody ever used one ?

or can recommend any other NAS box that supports SATA ?

I have the older version (IDE) and it does exactly what it says on the tin. I can access it from both my PCs, my Mac mini and my laptop. It backs up my important files on the fly as I use them and I use it to store High definition content to play through my mac.

Hmm - I think it depends on the price this can be had for. A proper NAS from a good company (exactly like this) will cost about £450-500 so this really has to be a budget solution or else you could easily get something even better from a top firm - however it is very interesting.

Digging up an old thread here, but wondered ih Headrat or anyone else had got one of these Thermaltake NAS units?

Oh thats dissapointing, it did look like a nice bit of kit. Google search hasn't come up with much either in the UK :(

I used to have the NetGear SC101 when it first came out. I had no problems whatsover with it. and I mean 0 problems.

I have been speaking to our Thermaltake account manager but these have still not turned up. I'd recommend either the Synology or QNap boxes still. :)

Does anyone know if these NAS solutions will work with an Xbox 360? That is ultimately what I am wanting, something to hold all my media on and stream to the 360 without the need for the PC to be on.

Therefore I guess it will need to be able to run Media Connect or something like Tversity that I read about yesterday?

(sorry I know next to nothing about NAS apart from the fact I know it would suit me down to the ground!!)

Just checked my Synology 106e and it supports uPnP DMA streaming.
Sorry, as said I don't really know this area at all! Does this mean it should be able to run TVersity and therefore stream to the 360? Do / can you actually instal software on the NAS itself, so it can work without the PC?
