Anyone Built a AMD *Phenom* System :o)

uli chipset was crap which now known as Nvidia Mxxxxx chipset. i hope the Nvidia MCP72, MCP76 and MCP78 chipset will be better...

No it wasn't , it was a great mainstream chip-set, the dual sata 2 boards gave nothing up on performance, not even that much on over-clocking. It was highly compatible with new & old sockets & standards.
Gutted NVidia bought them & effectively just rolled them into their own team. Could have been a serious 3rd party contender, especially since VIA went downhill (and have now left the chip-set business I believe).
Look how poor Asrock's Intel boards based on old Intel chip-sets are compared with the Uli based AMD setups they offered for the same price. The Intel based ones are crippled all over the place with (semi) significantly lower stock performance.
Edit : Err, apologies for the obviously off-topic.

well ive had 2 motherboards with uli chipset and both was crap.... when your watching a video or listening to music it jumps for a second or two, that happens on every hour. i tryed everything new drivers, new sound card, new graphic card, clean install of windows but still was the same so i brought a motherboard with ati chipset and it was perfect, no problem...

Fair enough, I found them to be flawless, I guess personal experience is always (rightly) the main factor in what chip-sets we rate. I suspect a chip-set driver problem but if you tried that, then I guess that's that.
Reading these boards it seems to me like there's a certain element of luck of the draw with hardware & software configurations. Seems like some computers just don't quite work together from the off & never really get sorted while others just plug in are flawlessly reliable. That's why there's something to be said for going with one of the commonly recommended setups on here. If 20+ people have been fine with the same combo of RAM, CPU, Mobo, Graphics, chances are you will be too.

Here you go...

Thanks M8..;) Thought the HSF would be a lot bigger like the AMD 6000+, have you and oics of your build or have you used a third party HSF...Thanks again..

im interested in this too, could someone compile a list of people who bought phenom systems? im running out of people to take the micky out of.
the guys who bought the 2900xt now have sold it so its been a booring month. :(

:) :D

I'm using a 2900XT

Believe it or not, there are some people who don't even know what the inside of a computer looks like, let alone care whats in their case.

My mother thought I could download extra RAM for her! So can certainly believe it. lmao
I agree that for perhaps 90% of CPUs purchased - the cooler will go on and stay on and never be overclocked so these coolers are fine for just that and help keep the retail cost down.
