Anyone deal with arachnophobia? NO Pictures of Spiders unless in spoiler tags.

you what now??

Yes, astral spiders are well known to be beings from other dimensions which can visit you when you are in a liminal state of consciousness between realms. This has happened to me once and it was terrifying. But I haven't lain myself open to it since.

Can I put a spider as my signature with that quote? please ?

plz, plz, plz? :p

We can call it the OcUK Mascot.

Make it a cute spider.

Let's see if the OP can handle reading this.

I was scared of spiders till I was 4 years old.

Then one day putting on my shoes a big spider crawled over my hand. With a child's scared reaction I whacked that spider with my other shoe and to my absolute horror, but more so shame it broke apart and about 50 tiny white spiders came running out of it and all over my hands.

Yet at that very moment my fear of spiders was conquered. I knew right then in my shame that a spider had a more to fear of me, even as a 4 year old boy, than any fear I should have of spiders.

Since that day I've felt a duty to pick up and save every spider I find indoors. I felt so ashamed I killed a mother spider that couldn't hurt me at all.

Since that day I learned to love spiders and all the useful things they do in nature.

There's absolutely zero fear of UK spiders for me, though I would be afraid of of the sting of huntsman or other deadly ones but not what they look like.

Now OP, I'm not saying you can necessarily conquer your fear that easily, but using my example, what is there to be afraid of? Nothing, at least in the UK.

Pick up the next spider you find indoor using a sheet of paper and a glass and let it outside. Good step to conquering your fear.

i too have sadly a similar situation to the op.

moved house (ironically to a more urban area) and been getting some real big'uns, it's been a real learning experience as i didn't think the common house spider could get so large (we're talking 3"+ diameter)

guess i'm lucky that unlike some, i can deal with images and even small spiders no problem, but rolling over in bed to see one of the big buggers chilling on the wall right next to me is gonna give me a heart attack some day.

unfortunately, despite having a cat and plastering the place with those ultrasonic repellers i have seen no reduction in them. if anyone has some other suggestions i'm open to giving them a go.

the knowledge that we don't have deadly spiders in the uk and that there's nothing to fear is an entirely hollow argument that does nothing. it's like telling a smoker that it's bad for them like that nugget of information they already know is going to suddenly change their minds.

I am not representative of GD, though I am starting to understand the benefits of respecting things like this more. I even started a Safe Space thread :p

It's human nature to be angry, spiteful and disagree. But I think with the internet we're see a grand shift away from the days of trolling and insulting others to just generally being more respectful. It may be a generational thing. It's a slow shift but it seems to be happening. I was watching a Minecraft stream the other night and I couldn't believe how cool and nice everyone was being to each other. Not in a fake way either, it was just very sweet. I think more of that in the world would be great.

I dunno - I always find gaming more enjoyable when someone's shooting their mouth off in chat :p

I once had a spider come down on my face as I drove off having just put the roof down in the car. That was interesting :D

I feed the spider that lives in my porch. If I see moths (they have destroyed two of my suits) in the house I catch them and drop them in his web.

I gave him a huuuge bluebottle the other day, and his reaction was clearly "wooohooo, it's Christmas!"

Yeah, well, I got banned from the OCUK Minecraft server for that.

I didn't say I did it myself... The worst I do is moan about lag or at my team if they're all camping in spawn. I'm happy to wind up people who accuse me of hacking, but I'm nice about it :D

Thinking about it, the only spider I don't kill on sight are the jumping spiders we get. They're too interesting to hurt. Had one live by my desk for a few days and he never once bothered me.

It's the house spiders that trigger me the most.
they're fun if you have a laser pointer. check youtube.

What the hell? How the **** was my post in any way 'not appropriate'? Would be nice if people explained exactly which rule was broken when they delete something.
