Anyone deal with arachnophobia? NO Pictures of Spiders unless in spoiler tags.

What the hell? How the **** was my post in any way 'not appropriate'? Would be nice if people explained exactly which rule was broken when they delete something.

I'll reply as I did the deletion and you're not the first one to have been reported to the mods and deleted.

This is a thread on aracnophobia, by people who've expressed almost irrational fears of spiders.

Why do people think it's appropriate to show videos and photos of large spiders here, not in spoilers?

I am not good with them but only seem to get weedy ones like daddy long legs type, reccomended getting peppermint oil off ebay and put in a sprayer, Havnt seen a big one here ever, also have white wood floors, clear sealant can be used on edges, as clutter free as possible and I have a quick look in bedroom before bed, proper wimp I am.
Edit the Internet advises putting dish soap in with mix, makes sense to make it stick I guess

The building I live in has the False Widow spiders all over it, and I've had a few in my flat. With the weather being hot at the mo Im paranoid having the window open and Im spraying insect killer around the window to stop them coming in (thats the theory anyway :))

I have to agree that I do the same in checking rooms to see if they're there :o:o

Sod that! I'd move.

Thank you - I'm still a bit confused as to why in a thread where I explicitly stated I have an irrational fear of spiders people think it's okay to link videos, pictures or say things like "Wait until the winter when they all come inside".

Thank you to those who have offered advice, it's comforting to know I'm not alone and makes it easier to talk about.

@Mods feel free to shut the thread; and thanks for removing anything that could trigger a response from those who have a fear of spiders.

Since getting a loft window put in my office I've been having massive spiders literally dropping on me. Don't really have arachnophobia, but one did make me shriek like a girl the other week

I am always amazed when you see people's homes lit up like Wembley at night with all the doors and windows wide open. The house must be like a rain forest in the morning. Every time I have done this, next morning is spent turfing out the local critters - Crickets, Moths, Spiders...

Once had a Stag Beetle move into the Garage (left the light on) the racket it makes flying was scary, it was like what on earth is that!? An amazing looking bug and gently shooed him out (turned off the light and left the door open, I was too chicken to pick him up).

Mossie's I hate, you see the lazy flight and know its probably just had its dinner. Whereas Spiders, no issue, catch them in a glass and them let out. A Huntsman caught me by surprise once, bright green and its pretty big! I don't think I would even recognise a false widow?

I hate them especially if they are on the ceiling :S

I try to hoover them up where possible, guess you need to eliminate the ones that live and breed on the outside of your house
even recognise a false widow?
they have a like a skull or wahtever on their back

There's only one spider video everyone should see if not already :D

Edit*
Wit that was the wrong one let me find it again...

Edit 2, I can't find it! Someone must remember it? An an email exchange between some guy and a company and he ends up drawing them a cartoon spidey with hilarious results?

Moved from town where we got some but not too often, usually just that late Autumn time of year, to a rural location where they are everywhere :( I'm not that bothered by them but not a fan either. Had to remove some fairly big ones the smaller ones I don't really care about.

I was showering late at night and had the bathroom window open for better ventilation when the extractor fan was broken. While I was drying and dressing, a moth flew in and proceeded to orbit the light. Annoying timing - I was about to go to bed. Flying bugs are much harder to catch in my experience. So I set about trying to shoo the moth back out the window...and while I was doing so another one flew in. Took me half an hour to get them both out.

You can get a mesh screen for windows. Velcro stuck to the frame, velcro stuck to the mesh, simple job. Most home windows open outwards, so the mesh would be on the inside and not very visible from the outside. Maybe some of the homes you saw had mesh screens fitted.

I had to do this or the amount of stuff you get in at this time of year is crazy - some of the windows have the metal roll down ones but I've not got to fitting those to my windows yet. Doesn't seem to stop the smaller spiders though but mostly seems to keep the bigger ones out not to mention the wasps which for some reason have been randomly showing up since late March.

I suppose the only helpful tip is too go around and try go seal the house up as much as possible. Very fine mesh of windows etc. It will take time to really be affective and get all the spiders which are currently inside back outside.

It's not going to work perfectly though. the bugs always get in. I'm abroad and have all entry points meshed up but have still seen large spiders, scorpions, centapeds, praying mantis and countless geckos inside. It's a lot less now that the house is properly sealed up but it doesn't change over night.

edit. thankfully i dont mind bugs too much.

Because that's the old school way of doing things here on OCUK. It's not necessarily right but a lot of people still do things like that here for lolz because that's how the internet [thus this forum] used to be.

The new school way is to respect others. The latter is gradually replacing the former. It will take some time but it is improving.

Actually that's not a bad idea. Regular house cleaning does help. Hoovering behind furniture regularly, making sure there's nowhere for them to stay. Spiders like places that get left alone. If every area keeps getting disturbed, they won't stick around.

The other thing that you can do is consider the whole ecosystem around your house, and to the extent that you can, make it unsuitable for spider prey. So, for example don't have things that attract flies or other spider prey in your garden etc etc. If there is no spider prey, you won't have so many spiders.

I moved from a small town to the countryside in the middle of nowhere, so my first summer was a shock when I discovered the size difference of our eight legged demonic friends, so I can empathise with the OP.

If you're in a relationship throw a book on top of the spider and then text your partner about the unsuspecting gift you've left them. If you're on your own its time to break out the can of deodorant and lighter.

Best of luck.:cry::(

I saw this huge moth at a site last night on the window ledge it was 1.5 - 2'' wingspan grey with reddish patterns and what looked like jagged spurs on the wings, almost a bat amongst moths no idea what it was but i picked it up and let it go outside. Stag beetle ooh you're lucky they're rare even teh Springwatch guy on telly last night said he'd never seen one lol

Some places have moths a foot wide. Big enough so that if one landed on your nose and flapped, its wings would touch your ears.

Add those not being here to the list of good things about living in Britain :)

I just pick them up and put them outside.

Never ever kill spiders, just stick them outside and let them be, no need to kill them.

Unless it's cold outside, then you should put them through your neighbour's letterbox. Especially nowadays, when the usual GD staple letterbox delivery item would breach civilised behaviour during a pandemic.
