Anyone Eaten Camel?

**** loads of camels out that way:)

Ive never been there my self.

Was it a good meat to eat?

It was delicious. I was working for a few days at a place that specialised in 'bush' food...Croc, camel, kangaroo, drop bear ( ;) )...All sorts.

Had a steak one night and a massive burger with loads of fresh, tangy relish the next. Om nom nom.

I imagine it's similar to goat. If it cooked slow and low temperature beautiful meat. If cooked to fast fatty and tough.

But no never had it.

Well not entirely surprising. The Northern Territories have the largest wild population of Dromedary (Single Hump) camels in the world and then need to be regularly culled.

They dont "need" To be culled. They dont cause any more damage then the native animals do.(AFAIK)

They are just worth good money to sell or eat.

A lot actually get sent back to places like Afghanistan due to a camel shortage:p

I've only eaten the toe, luckily there wasn't much lettuice to accompany it as I'm not a big fan of lettuce with camel.

edit: damit beaten by 10 people :o

Im curious to know if anyone has eaten camel here before?

Ive only heard 2 people say they have tryed it.

One person said it has good marbled meat and its really nice if cooked properly and very tender.

But then the other person ive heard say it smells bad and it had a bad taste to it and was too fatty and tough.

So has anyone had Camel on here and what were your thoughts?

Wouldnt mind trying it my self:)
I had it on a barbecue in that Outback of yours - Kangaroo steak, Emu burgers and Camel sausages... mmm :D close to the "Eat Some Today" sign near Parachilna, it inspired us!

Here it is:
