Anyone else dab the gas on an upshift?

Always blip the revs when changing down, keep around the 1800-2000 rpm mark when in each gear driving a TDI.(except when in top gear and I want to get to 70 when its 2.500). I also drive to the conditions and were possible miss gears out, less strain on parts and a more comfortable drive, along with what I would consider large fuel savings I have driven this way now for some time now and it still amazes me how much fuel I save by driving this way.

...and I drive a Lean TDI 130, the old VAG 1.9 unit and if it can do 4krpm in 2nd easily enough (yea it makes a noise and is really at the end of it's useful power band by that point, but it'll do it no problem) then I'm damn sure your 2.0 model will.

Slightly off topic, but NickXX,was that picture in your sig, taken at the 1st (may have been the 2nd I can't remember now but it was getting on for 3 years ago) OcUK rolling road down in Cheltnam by chance?...that black Leon on the round-about looks just like mine, could just be a coincidence I guess.
Like I said, I've been talking rubbish all along. I think I need to see a doctor.

Give up mate, you can't tell some people... I tried on a previous thread and got told I obviously can't drive...

I don't know if thats specifically about what I said, but if it was then I think that reply is uncalled for. I only asked for an explanation, as I don't understand how it'd work. I can't try it atm as I'm currently at uni, and don't have my car here. I'll try it when I go home on tuesday though.

Lol, I think you are right.

I can't drive either

Ditto.

The two driving instructors I had both taught me to change to 4th at just below 30 (never cruise at 30 in a 30, just to be sure you don't go over, ya see) and were warned we'd get minor's for not doing so. But obviously, they can't drive either - because the people on this board said so.

its easier to reach higher revs in a lower gear as there's less gearbox 'weight' to shift, lower gearing = easier to move... if that wasnt the case then your car wouldnt move in 1st.. .:P

my car may be a patrol but it redlines at 6k and i often take it to 7k just because i hate the car, i've yet to blow my engine up...

*disclaimer, don''t do the above, my engine is worth nothing and has a timing chain rather than a cam belt anyway, harder to break.

As previously said, try clutchless shifting, it will tell you exactly what revs and speed you need to be at to get that 'perfect' shift...

all you do is lightly push the gear lever into the next gear without pressing the clutch.. if you're at the right revs / speed it should just pop in..dont push too hard or it'll grind :D

That's sorted then, although I would suggest that there is more likely something wrong with your car, than you.
