Anyone else disappointed with the Bioshock demo?

im not disappointed with the game itself its only a demo and really fully judge it the gameplay too much

but i am disappointed with the engine

no support for AA
also cant seem to get the game to run at 100Hz it keeps defaulting to 60Hz

it dos support AA, at least on 8800 anyway.

your right there, something is just not right with the graphics i just can;t put my finger on it. the environment didn;t seem to be very interactive too as in destructable stuff. would have liked to smash a hole in a window and see water flow through. think its a lack of physics or something. but there something thats missing but i can;t put my finger on it.

as for the textures, could be cuz its a console game too that they decided to stick with 1 batch of textures for cross platform use.

I kind of agree the game just has a been there done that feel. The action was also quite lacking.

When your ZONKED from 1st injection and fall over railing, the little sister looks like her skin/legs are part of dress, same colour etc with no border, not sure myself.

iv noticed the trend with these new games though, they all add a twist to make the gameplay new and not like other games,
PREY had the spirit walk
Bioshock has the injections
Crysis has the nano suit

looks like thats the future of FPS games, since anything else would be just nothing different from what else is out there.

You could be right there. I ran ATT whilst playing the game at 1680x1050/Max Details and the graphics memory usage never went above 300mb, which means there's lots of room for improvement in the texture department.

Crysis will be fresh since it focsing on large scale stuff and open endedness. Stalker was kind of fresh too. The last thing i want in games nowdays is the linear corridor feel in fps. Which Bioshock does in spades.

Bioshock has a distinct console fps feel. Which is understandable as the pc version was outsourced to Australia.

yes, it does feel consoleish, it just seems to lack depth in gameplay, other than use injections and guns, nothing really revolutionary in terms of physics usage etc. would be good if you could drown enemies or use the environment more to do stuff with, but to do stuff like that on a console controller is tricky and most games will never bother with it.
if it was a pc only game then it would have been a bit more interesting.

The game looks alright plays good, nothing special.

As been said the textures look huge and physics are poor, but ill still be buying it as there is a major lack of pc games atm :/

half-life 2
farcry
just cause

all 3 games mentioned above look better and perform loads better.

bioshock is a game that could have been done on the doom3 engine just like prey was and modded a little for a couple of extra effects.

ROFLMAO
Bioshock is the UNREAL 3 engine. Just Cause what the ****?

Seriously, your eyes need testing.
Personally I think this is the best story driven FPS I have ever played. It blows Half Life 2 away.
It makes FEAR seem like a kids game - The little sisters are terrifying, and the combat is highly inventive. There are so many ways of approaching a situation - you could reload a sequence and do the whole thing again in a totally different way, then reload again and do it more different ways.
Electrocuting a pool of water and taking out all the enemies in it, setting fire to a chair, levitating it then throwing it at an enemy. Seeing the enemy run around screaming, heading for water to put himself out. You could either fill him with lead, or wait for him to get to the water, then zap it with electricity :P

Stunning story, stunning graphics, stunning gameplay. Amazing

Yeah the game does have AA it's just abit odd atm, a hotfix/workaround will come out some people have indeed got it working.

Lol at Mav saying it's worse than Far Cry, swear you're obsessed with that.

BioShock is probably the best looking FPS game out on PC atm.

Screenshots don't do it justice.

the game doesnt even support widescreen properly, wide screen users get the top and bottom chopped off. Poor show.

It. Is. A. Demo.

A smart gamer will realise that it is impossible to include a full gameplay experience inside a short demo. So all you people saying how average the gameplay is... remember:

It. Is. A. Demo.

Sheesh

Very average game imo.

Average? Come on man :(

My impression of the demo was a game with a great atmosphere, great game-play (albeit there was little), great graphics and performance.

*cancels pre-order*

Yeah, I'm cancelling mine because I didn't like the flood sequence, didn’t seem realistic enough to me…

No wait a minute, I’m an idiot, that sequence was awesome! :D

I might cancel because the water was so unrealistic, i want to be able to shoot holes in the galss and have the water come in and start filling up the city so that me and all the splicers drown realistically and what was all that rubbish with the ignite plasmid? it should set the city on fire and become an out of control wildfire that is only put out by the realistic water pouring in

I finished it last night and was pretty impressed with it. Hard to give a full assesment on it as its the demo. Looks to have taken some inpsiration from Fritz Langs Metropolis. Gameplay wise it's nothing earth shattering and doesn't really break the mould. For me that isn't necessarily a bad thing as it looks as though it is more than compensated in a rather unusual story line.
