i never used to play online, in any game. too much 'i fragged your mum' out there when i first started, put me off.

but now im not crap anymore, i quite enjoy being the one that fragged that guys mum just before i headshotted him

Have you ever seen a game that looks that good?

half-life 2
farcry
just cause

all 3 games mentioned above look better and perform loads better.

bioshock is a game that could have been done on the doom3 engine just like prey was and modded a little for a couple of extra effects.

but as far as graphics go, the textures don;t really look that high detail to me, especially when compared to games like half life 2 or farcry with 64bit content mod.

good thing the demo came out. now i know not to spend my money on this game.

but to be fair to bioshock, the story seems great and the twist in gameplay using the injections to 'roid up' is interesting.

Half life 2 was stunning when it came out. the source engine is fantastic..

but the unreal 3 engine is far superior. Its level of detail is double that of source. Dunno how anyone can say it looks better.

Source looks good still, but not more than the u3 engine

For those going on about the lack of multiplayer, I personally am buying this for the single player experience, I've got Cs, BF2 &2142 etc for my online needs as Im sure plenty of other people have. I agree with you mav with regards the textures, it's something I noticed too and I'm hoping it is just a result of trying to keep the demo size down as some of the textures looked hires, for instance the stairs immediately after you come out of the water but others looked fairly low res.

Source on its own is not a patch on this however with the cinematic mod i'd say it looks on par the textures are definitely much better than bioshocks, check out my screenshots in the 1280 thread.

How many FPS?
What drivers are you using?
I ran it at 1400*900, got 15-25 FPS on high settings and 20-25 on medium.

I thought it was comparable to oblivion tbh...

First of all, the complexity of the shaders in Bioshock are far greater than those in Oblivion and there are also far more of them. In fact, the complexity of the shaders is deffinetly the most seen in any game. The real time lighting and shading are far superior as well as the HDR lighting. As for the water in Bioshock, have you even seen it?! Don't say it looks similar to Oblivion's lol :p

Bioshock is not an average game. The sound design and music is top notch, the level design and artwork are top notch, the voice acting is top and the whole concept of Rapture I think is just damn awesome.

As for the gameplay, you've got all those awesome plasmids and tonics to play with. You've got some cool weapons, challenging and intelligent enemies, youve got RPG elements in there too. What more exactly do you want?! We need some scripted sequences to deliver the story! They are completely necessary. However, it has been proven, there are many decisions you can make and many different ways to tackle the same problems that present themselves in the game.

I assure you, Bioshock is NOT an average game.

Rant over :D

The Bioshock Demo ran like a plane going 100000000000000000 trillion MPH.

X1950XT at 1920x1200 with nearlly every setting high, it ran bloddy awsome. :D

I cannot belive it myself, thought it would struggle quite a bit to tell you the truth but it didnt, i was shocked and very very pleased. :D

It wasn't as engaging as I'd hoped but it ran very nicely which was good considering a lot of newer games are starting to push the 1600x1200 native res on my x1900xt !

One thing I do find odd is that a lot of these newer games seem to like making everything so shiny ... the cobbled floor among other things looked like it was covered with a layer of wax or something :/ it would be better if they made the textures nicer ... Some walls and panels were a bit bland once you got up close !

You know when your in that tunnel bridge and the water
starts gushing in ?,you just know that this game has raised the bar
definitely an omfg moment for me.
I think those that are saying this isn't all that will secretly
be playing this.

Lol, I'm no expert, and don't go to my bedroom with tissues at the thought of "a thousand more polygons per thingy!!", but even I could see that this is put together a lot better than Half Life 2.
And I think HL2 looks great, btw.

I never played Hl2 the whole way through as i think it's vastly overrated.
It has decent graphics but very linear gameplay feels like your on rails
too much the only thing that made it so great was the fact of all the mods
that would follow.
