This isn't a medical thread and it's certainly not something worth bothering a GP over. I'm just more curious than alarmed hence why I'm asking.

Does anyone else here wake up with sore throats? It always seems to happen when I brush my teeth before bed, so I'm assuming it's the toothpaste doing it as when I 'forget' I don't usually wake up with a sore throat.

Yep i do.

its not a common thing but id say 3/7 mornings i wake up with a sore throat from brushing before bed.

If I leave my window open, I get an awful sore throat in the morning.

Easy way to avoid it is to wear a bandanna or similar article around your face. Also helps prevent spiders crawling in.

But you would miss out on midnight protein :p

Don't generally get a sore throat on waking, though usually have a dry mouth.

Toothpaste sometimes gives my mouth the same taste you get when you know you have bad breath. Strange cause its fine after I brush and feels clean and fresh, but like 10-20mins later it feels awful.

Is there anything else that changes on the nights when you forget to brush your teeth i.e. are those the nights you go out drinking or is there some other linking factor? Have you tried brushing your teeth say 2 hours before you go to bed instead of 5 minutes or whatever your usual habit is and seeing if that makes any difference?

I don't tend to get sore throats on waking up, occasionally my mouth feels a bit dry but since I've long been in the habit of leaving a glass of water beside my bed it is a momentary irritation at worst.

Nope, nothing different. I always take a glass of water to bed. I've tried drinking some water about five minutes after brushing my teeth but that doesn't seem to help. I'm kind of in the habit of waking up and diving for the water now to cure the throat-fire. :p

I think as people say it's probably my mouth/throat drying out (I suspect having the window open adds to this) and the toothpaste is aiding the process somewhat.

I was thinking about the brushing a little earlier myself. Can't hurt to be a little empirical about the whole thing can it? :p

I always brush right before going to bed. Only occasionally will I wake with a sore throat. I always thought it was mild infection?

If I had been cutting wood (MDF) the day before, I usually have a bit of a sore throat the next morning. Rather than it being the dust, I'm quite sure it's actually from wearing the mask. All the moisture from your breath collects in it and with the warmth makes a good environment for germs to multiply.

I usually get it every morning, no matter what I try it always happens. I did constantly have white spots on my tonsils for a couple of years which would just fall off then come back, doctor reckoned it was normal, last time that happened was a few months ago. I was just told to gargle salt water every night before bed, which didn't do anything. They were horrible things as they stank.

I have a feeling it might be to do with drinking a lot of tea everyday, I tend to drink it whilst it's very hot and it's possible giving me a dodgy throat, same with hot food.

I suddenly started having it, and started snoring, this was after I'd put a tiny bit of weight on, I found if i'm over a certain weight i'll snore etc, if i'm under it, i'll be fine >.<
