Anyone else getting these links on the forum?

I really don't have a problem with them. We have always know that these forums are here to support the shop and that is all these links do. They are also tiny little text links that are hardly noticeable.

If you have a problem with them - turn them off. If everyone turned them off then there wouldn't be a problem.

I have seen lots of other forums that use a similar style, but with much more obvious and annoying links.

This just comes across as complaining just to complain.

I also feel that the threats here are completely unnecessary. You aren't being forced to post here...well, I can probably only vouch for myself on this one - but I am certainly not being held here against my will!

I have supported many of the OcUK user campaigns in the past, but the way this one has been handled it just comes across as very childish and self-righteous.

People have to accept that the forums are not the same any more & have to get used to it or stop visiting.
A fair few things have bothered me lately, I'm old & don't like change & also liked that Unique feel we had about the place but as we have no control all we can do is sit back & watch the decline of the Social side of the boards & the rise of the commercial side.

I was on a forum where the admin used to like changing people's posts, I left and so did all the other active posters - that forum is now toast.

This is much the same thing, I am here to provide content, not to be a convenient platform for you to sneakily insert spam into my post. And yes it does look like I inserted those links myself.

Hiring semi naked girls to pimp products, flogging drinks that are clearly a health risk and now abusing the trust of members. Well, at least we know where the Germans are coming from.

Gold star for the complete failure at understanding the zeitgeist.

.

As i said it doesn't turn them off, it just hides them from you... I don't want people i bring to the forum through the indie stuff and game information seeing advertisement IN MY POSTS, you already get the members what more do you want?.

Back to the point

It's a sad day when some members find it acceptable and also come across saying " we are going to have to accept it ". Very much a british attitude maybe we should learn from the french ;) , however coming from those that work at ocuk and moderate for ocuk is no surprise, you're hardly going to be against it are you? it wouldn't look very good against the management.

I don't want it in pc gaming, I don't want it linking through my posts when i have it disabled. I said to people here diplomacy doesn't work when it comes to ocuk and what i've said still stands.

I truelly believe this is wrong, it's bad and gives me an awful taste in my mouth if it means leaving the forum then so be it

Bloody hell, internet serious business!

It's just a underlined word! You don't have to click it or even notice it!

Do remember that these forums are free, so if you don't like it go elsewhere!

Heck this is the SHOPS forum, why wouldnt they want to advertise a little? Makes perfect sense for the project logs and hardware related sub forums.
Because it is dumb and it ruins the feel of the forum.

I know where the shop is, it has a huge banner at the top, if want a new hard drive I don't need a hotlink in someone's post telling me where to go.
It also makes their post dammed annoying to read.

Is it even required? Everyone on this forum knows how to search and buy something from OcUK anyway! Infact a large majority of people here (myself included) are OcUK customers and have spent thousands with the company.

Missing the point, you're not the intended audience for the links. It's all those people who come over from search engines and have no idea OcUK sells stuff.

So turn it off then..

Not now they are not, as we are providing extra revenue

It might be an underlined word, but it's advertising through your post also through pointless words.

I'm going to edit your post to advertise my sites, nothing you can do about it how do you feel now?

So turn it off then..

It's not off, it's hidden ;)

You ever thought this forums isn't the be all and end all of life?

True, very true... But it is... was a great place to be with great people and a great company but if someone up top affects me and everyone around me in a bad way then i'll make a stand

I can list ten people which if they left I wouldn't bother to come back, glibly suggesting that people leave shows just how little you understand forums and how important content providers are.

And not everyone is as well informed as you. I find it helpful, especially when viewing someone project log spec list, if i like thier project can just click on one of the links to what ever i might be interested in.

That still makes it free, you haven't paid anything. If you have a site and these are your forums feel free to display your links on them, if I have an issue with it I'd just not use your site anymore :)

It's not off, it's hidden ;)

It's off to whoever selects it to be whilst they are logged in.

Helpful?

How does this post in DayZ come across as helpful to you?

Oh hey I just checked out his camp and he had lots of stuff with great gear
Or how about this ( picking an indie news post at random )

Pioneer is a space adventure game set in the milkyway galaxy at the turn of the 31st century.

The game is open-ended, and you are free to explore the millions of star systems in the game. You can land on planets, slingshot past gas giants, and burn yourself to a crisp flying between binary star systems.

When Pioneer is finished there will be many ways to make ends meet: piracy, smuggling, bounty-hunting, mining, doing missions for the various factions fighting for power, freedom or self-determination.

Pioneer has a sneaking resemblance to Frontier: Elite 2.

Those lines look pretty in my posts to other users doesn't it especially the 160 members on twitter coming to ocuk, can't do anything about it, haven't agreed to anything

How about you read the thread and come to your own conclusion about the idiocy of that comment :)

I've read it, and I decided to read it in that way because what you've posted is more stupid.

I take it you represent every guest and google search viewer?

Edit away, I don't actually care until they start editing my post to change my opinion. They aren't doing that so I have no problem.

I can list ten people which if they left I wouldn't bother to come back, glibly suggesting that people leave shows just how little you understand forums and how important content providers are.
People who complain about every small issue (which this is) don't really make a forum special.
I've seen a lot of people come and go on this forum and it hasn't really made a big difference. In some areas it's noticed but not in most

Self entitlement on these forums forums is shocking to me sometimes.

OcUK pay for the forums and want to advertise on them, the don't need your concent or permission. They've given people the option to disable it if they want to, and people are threatening and demanding it removed or a compromise? People are just arguing for arguments sake here as usual.

Aw come on Neil, how many of those members following you are from OcUK / after advertising themselves anyway? :o I'm pretty sure the mods aren't going to be held to blackmail the shops advertising strategy over a few customers who aren't even coming to look at buying hardware.
