Turn it off then Neil...

I have now, someone else mentioned how to do it

It's still ****, didn't even see an announcement ocuk has gone really cheap as far as i'm concerned using this method. Probably down to the new german owners

Not

Telescopi (OcUK) informed us how to turn it off.

Everything is always a work in progress ;)

For the record as per suggestions in this thread we've changed the link style (dotted underline) so it's different to normal links in your posts, disabled it for the life forums, and added the option for registered members to disable it completely (look in your user cp, edit options, thread display options).

Did he make an annoucement to the entire forum? or did we have to find out when it actually happened like today.

I very rarely visit GD, i'm in pc gaming.

You seem to have managed to find the information you needed.

I'm sure anyone else who it bothers so much can do the same.

Here's a legally challenging question - does turning it off, turns off display for the author only or does it disable changes in posts by that poster? As in, if I turn it off, but everyone else has it turned on, do they see my posts changed to spamvertising anyway, or will they never see links in my posts after I disabled it?

EDIT: I actually answered my own question by checking the forums from another browser as anonymous user - my posts in Hardware section contain spamvertising links visible to other users (and search engines) despite the fact I disabled them in CP. In other words, CP disables display only. It hides the fact you make out posts look like spam from the author. You need to fix it guys.

Emmm... I have no idea what everyone is talking about ... nothing happens for me!!

Is adblock saving me? I don't have any of these shop links! Just plain text...

Wow, awesome thanks :) This is why I love ocuk - no other forum that I know of would do this.

That is seriously uncool so all my posts show up as SPAM to people that have not disabled it in CP?

Think i might stop posting indie titles now and remove twitter links to ocuk, i'm all for making a stand but having my posts spamming members who want to check out the last indie titles.

Bad bad idea

To those that say oh just disable it in cp, you have no idea how bad this really is for a company like ocuk to do that to it's members!

DISABLE IT IN PC GAMING FOR ALL MEMBERS!

That seems to be the case. I have the keyword spamvertising disabled in CP, and I see my post like this:
spamvertising2.jpg

But someone logged out (and presumably registered users with spamvertising enabled in CP) can see word "generic" in my post linking to some completely unrelated to my post neon lights.
spamvertising1.jpg

So, the option in CP doesn't stop my posts being part of the campaign I never agreed to, it just hides the fact my post has been altered and is being used for said campaign from me in almost "what the eye don't see won't break the heart" fashion.

Thanks v0n!

I've never stood so harshly against anything ocuk has done, sure i've disagreed with the emulator rule and the screensize rule but there's been a discussion and we both came to an agreement.

This however is completely unacceptable, i'll give it one week to be removed from pc gaming or no more indie titles, it's that simple

careful youll get a infraction :p

Don't care, they can suspend me if they want won't change my hard line stance on this however much the members want to suck up, i'll not be a part of it. ocuk are treating the members and people who visit the forums as forced advertisers.
