Anyone else getting these links on the forum?

Telescopi, one thing that woul be absolutely amazing is if you could implement it so that if someone typed, for example, "Windforce 7970" it would automatically link them to that product :D

Easy enough but the trick is knowing which part of the post to search on - not as easy as somebody typing a search string in.

Look at the resources of Google, and the complete mess they make of adsense nine times out of ten ;)

Think I can also change the link style so its different to normal links (rather fond of the yellow in the forum titles).

Well anyway, ran out of wine so time for bed :p

So what - it actually changes my post? As in - if I say "my intel says it's absolutely crucial that you turn left before Kingston." it will change it to something promoting products?

Edit. Holly... are you guys insane?

Banner is completely different thing. Please don't be silly, you have to be very careful about changing text and effectively tone of someone expressing their private view on public forum and exploiting it for commercial purposes. This isn't a private blog or sponsored article and even without consulting lawyer, in this day and age it's fairly obvious that manipulating with what people really posted after they hit reply is guarded by enough paragraphs to not make it worth your time. And come on - it's not like text enhance tactic ever worked for anyone. I mean really? What is this - ten years ago?

- Even if you don't care that it might make the posters feel dirty, when they freely discuss or slam quality of a product in uncertain terms and you make them look like they advertise and promote that product.
- Even if you don't care that this will make the forum content look really spammy.
- If you don't care how fake backlinking to yourself will affect your SEO.

Then at least think how easy this is to exploit. It will take one competitor to join the forum, make one well prepared, clever, but innocent looking post and then hit you with a lawsuit for changing the form of what he posted into an advert.

I'm saying this out of love baby, look when I joined, I spent best 10 years chatting with peeps here. But this (waves with finger around random links appearing in posts) is beneath you. You don't need it. You don't want it. It will be beginning of the end if you leave it there.

If the mods or OcUK staff want to promote links to the store then perhaps they should come on here and do it themselves rather than having the forum edit a users post. If I wanted to link to something then I will link to something myself rather than it artificially done.

I do hope the ability to 'opt out' of seeing this stuff can be added, as I've been a forum user for many years (was a lurker before I finally made an account) and have purchased multiple PCs (some pre-built, some in parts) from OcUK and so I don't need to see these links. Seeing these links in peoples posts just reminds me of the horror of some forums where you touch your cursor to one of the links and you get a stupid bubble popup. That may not be what OcUK is doing, but in my mind it's what I think of when I see keywords automatically linked.

Does doing this actually make people click and buy something?

It seems unlikely to me. As far as I can tell, all that online advertising does is annoy people.

But as online ads go, this one doesn't annoy me much;

It doesn't substantially alter the content of users' posts (but see below).
It doesn't require users to give numerous sites free reign to run any number of scripts that do anything on users' computers.
It doesn't flash or wobble.

I would like links made by the poster to be differentiated from links made by the advertiser and inserted into the post as if they were made by the poster. As it stands, it's a bit deceitful.

May also look at disabling it for members or giving you the choice (I hope you already know OcUK sells this **** !!).

For the love of jebus I hope you do because at the moment its a down right mess and is totally different to a banner that anyone with 2 mins to spare can get rid of.

It 's crucial i get my flight to Kingston, Jamaica on Friday as I just bought a Sapphire ring for the girlfriend. I cancelled Silverstone to be there so please BeQuiet about this.

Microsoft and Samsung tablets with OCZ ssds in my ASUS motherboard.

Surprised they've only just done this tbh, other forums have had this function for years, especially in the USA linking to Tiger Direct and Newegg.
Also, anybody that whines about it is a fool and should probably just leave now.

I hate those ones you get where a little window pops up when you hover over a work, grrr. I don't mind this really, but it's be a hell of a lot better if it was disabled for members, or member who've been here for a year or more, or something.

I have no problem with this at all. I can't see it detracting from the discussions in any way and at the end of the day (or even the beginning) its a forum tacked onto an online store and has to pay for itself some how. Some forums have big banners in between posts, so I think this is a much less obtrusive way.

Surely it pays for itself anyway, search for a hardware problem in google, find OCUK forums results and links to the shop, done. To be honest, under the overclockersuk banner they should have something telling everyone that they're a shop.
