Anyone else gone back to MW2 ?

i've gone back to cod4 on pc
hated mw2 i played it for 6 months trying to give it a chance but did not like it
black ops is full of campers and has a crap spawn point 50 % of the time i spawn pretty much die straight away. but i still go back to them now and again but can not play for more then half an hour before getting bored.

Black Ops seems just as random as MW2 did - you can play a load of games and own completely, then come back to it a few hours later and you can't hit anything, even at point blank range. There's a lot less of that in bc2 and for some reason I have more fun playing bc2.

I agree Fireblade, hit direction etc. just seems so much sharper. If people played it in the same way as they did when it was the latest CoD, ie. normal guns, playing for objectives, etc. then it would still be infinitely better. Saying that, I'm just thoroughly unimpressed by Blops. Apart from gun games, which are fun, it's really not a very good game imho.

The only thing better is the maps, I'm not keen on BOPs maps but as a game it's miles ahead of MW2 with the killstreaks for dummies.

It makes me laugh reading the same people who whinged about MW2 hit detection and lag moaning about BOPs as though MW2 had none.

All these game shave the same crappy hit detection and lag on the 360. If you can't stomach that go play on another system. Peer to peer will always be crap.

Black Ops has made some important steps in the right direction through actually listening to criticism, but unfortunately these steps forward are taken from a mile behind because they are reusing a touched-up but ultimately out-dated engine.

The right steps:
  • Getting rid of quick-scoping - hardly game-breaking as you can't really be effective unless you're exceedingly good at hip-firing, but still damn annoying for long-range classes to not be screwed when you finally manage to get up close.
  • Getting rid of noob-tubers - scavenger doesn't work on explosives, no more One Man Army, no more Danger Close, and grenade launchers are disabled in the first 3 seconds of a game. All the bases covered.
  • Killstreak kills don't earn further killstreaks - the slightly lame tactic of selecting consecutive killstreaks no longer works and success is no longer irretrievably self-perpetuating if someone has more than one 'later' killstreak.
  • Secondary weapons are now actual secondary weapons as opposed to a second primary weapon - 'commando' snipers and other such 'no weakness' classes are extinct.
  • Commando is gone - 'nuff said.

The wrong steps:
  • Using the same engine or at least not updating it sufficently - the game is actually uglier than its predecessor, and in todays graphic-dominated gaming industry, that's saying something.
  • Network coding - ironically lag has known to prefer those causing it in conflicts with better-connected users.
  • No dedicated servers - more than a billion dollars of pure profit from the last title but apparantly Activision are too strapped for cash to 'splash' out on official servers (at all in the case of PS3 users and without paying for it in the case of PC users).
  • Awful spawning code - more than once I've respawned in someone's line of fire; this should not happen in any FPS.
  • Crap map design - mostly the maps are too small, although there are other issues like it being too attractive to camp in one spot or it being too easy to spawn-camp in some maps.
  • Niggling balance issues, some of which are obvious - AK74u is a glaring one, although the main issue is that the majority of users pick a small niche of guns. Also, I think the knife needs work to be less irritating in what should be a FPS, although I think the developers have said they will tackle this in a future patch.

Meh, I just think Blops is poo. Sniping is so retarded it's scary. I appreciate they wanted to stop people quick scoping but now it's just not an option if you want to do anything productive in the game.

Black Ops is a much better game for me personally and I have no intention of ever going back to MW2, I'd rather go back to COD4 if anything.

The gun balancing in Bops is spot on the 74u is not overpowered its just overused at range the 74u is nothing more than a pea shooter and with the bad net code in Bops rapid fire is a bad addition to the weapon (which most seem to use)

The 74u is an SMG don't forget so in close quarters should come out on top as does the MP5k which has exactly the same ROF bullet damage and damage drop off as the 74u.

IMO the 74u is not a problem it's just damn popular, the same as the UMP45 in MW2 (Although damage drop off on that gun was a joke as there wasn't any) but at range the UMP was easily beaten by most weapons, as the 74U is.

The player numbers seemed to be up a bit over the weekend 6600, about the highest I've seen on Dom for a while. Some of the maps never get old for me after 22+ days, but I dislike the prominence of the team skins on certain maps. It does kind of balance in the interior spaces, but I don't think that matters as much as outside.

My mate has finally switched to my ISP and being on the same exchange we were comparing notes on who was built proof/dealt instant death. Like NL hosts falling in to the latter.

I don't know how much line noise and contention issues have to play, but after midnight last night I had an out of body experience on scrapyard hosting with the SPAS only, shades of randy savage.

Sniping is not productive to anyone but the sniper trying to rack up a KS in anything except TDM.

Just last night we had a sniper almost ruin a game for us camping down the end of a street causing us to keep spawning near him while actually trying to get the objective.

I'm glad they nerfed it, the worst thing they did in cod4 was make the sniping easier. After they patched it all you could hear was the sniper rifle every 2 seconds.

I like both, would happily play any COD with people rather than the 'best' COD on my own.

I'm really enjoying black ops at the moment though. The video function and being able to share funny/flukey/skilled videos with people is a great addition.

I'd happily play COD4 again. In the end though with MW2 I was just glad a new game came along to move the group onto because I'd had my fill 5 times over :D

I don't actually thing the spawning is that bad since the patch. The only time you'll end up spawning beside an enemy is if you're team is split over the two spawn points and the game has no option but to spawn you next to the enemy.

Launch is a case in point - there's only two spawn points. If you have members of your team in both - somebody is going to get an enemy next to them.

I don't think the game engine is that much out of date. Its still hugely enjoyable to play.

The main issue is the multiplayer experience. P2P is always going to be crap. I think COD needs a dedicated server infrastructure. But for as long as it continues to be a best selling game without it, why bother investing millions doing it ?

Played some MW2 on Saturday night. Really different feel to BO, from movement to weapons to map design.

I did find myself wanting to dive everywhere!

I like them in equal amounts.

I'll NEVER go back to Modern Warfare 2, except to maybe admire all my emblems and titles.

It's a good game and I put a lot of hours into pwning noobs, but the client-side "matchmaking" is horrific and leads to endless issues - lag, hackers, no voting, no servers, small player counts, pointlessly sitting around in the lobby for years at a time - no thanks. Also, I can not put into words how sick I got of grenade launcher noobs and akimbo glock noobs. Ugh. So lame.

Quite the opposite I find Alrik MW2 net code is very good even on a 2 bar it is playable not the best but you can still do well. Whereas on Bops its a mixed bag you won't know until you meet an enemy sometimes 2 bar gives you a huge advantage sometimes not it's so unpredictable and makes for such an unknown factor that every game you have to change the way you play, some may welcome that but I find it so annoying.
