Anyone else got a 2900XT and a similar spec to me (P5N-E SLi)

Got a lovely Cheiftec Dragon case! old school... HDD vibrates in it horribly lol. Going to get a P182 soon.

Ive got Bioshock, MOH:A, HL2, BF 2/2142, Oblivion, Doom 3. Anygame you want trying in particular? Everygame I throw at it runs as smooth as butter. I cant get 3DMark06 working through, it keeps crashing on loading screen.

Im using 7.9 ATI drivers.

What is your screen res?

There is a way to get 3dmark06 to work, cant remember exactly how to do it tho.

Try CSS Stress Test.

And try HL2, 1280x1024, 8xAA/16xAF at the start of the game.
If you monitor supports 1680x1050, then use that for all since thats the same screen res as I have on my monitor.

you got it working properly yet?

if you have oblivion performance issues i read somewjere that changing the max render ahead frames to 1 from 3 makes a big difference. was an old article though.

Aren't Prey and Q4 both using the Doom 3 engine, and hasn't that historically preferred NVidia cards?

those games use opengl, games are not really optimised for nvidia, its just that nvidia either have better opengl driver or there is something in the nvidia hardware that speeds up opengl rendering.
can;t really optimise opengl for one card or the other since its a set standard used in professional graphics work,

im gonna say its ati's drivers, if you check the last 8 driver version release notes i noticed loads of opengl performance improvements in them.

Nvidia drivers have always had an edge when it comes to OpenGL.

question is, is it the drivers? or is it the hardware? since nvidia has helf the leed in opengl dating all the way back to the original gforce card im gonna take a guess and say its the hardware, since many years or so have passed since the original gforce card was out and ati have had time to catch up in the driver department but have not made much headway.

take a look at the above test, even the 7600gt beats a x1950pro in quake 4 but if you read the rest of the review here:
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/sapphire_x1950_pro_agp_ultimate_review/default.asp
the x1950pro seems to beat the 7600gt by a large margin in everything else.

Yes but ATi now has a new OpenGL model just look at the new FireGL cards based on the R600. The lowest end FireGL card is whooping the highest Quadro based on the G80 ;). It aint hardware it's purely software and ATi now have the edge in OpenGL it seems.

C'mon Mav and Tom back on topic guys as Will's needing some help. Also Tom your first few posts in this thread are a bit out of order for someone who's a big part of these boards.

how come they haven;t made these drivers for the standard 2900 and not only for the firegl version? im guessing there is some kind of hardware changes made to the firegl card to make it work better for opengl.

No there are no hardware changes AFAIK. You can softmod a 2900XT to a FireGL.

will hasn;t replied for ages now, so either he has got the problem sorted and is ignoring this thread, or the problem has got worse and now he can;t get on the forums since is pc is bust :)
