Anyone else had loads of hardware issues with AMD current gen?

I think the point how I see it is that it isn't really an opinion as such being expressed by him... what he has said may well be underpinned by an opinion but the expression of it is anything but.

I do agree that opinions - if backed up by sound logic - should be let be. The problem here is the logic behind it hence all of the comments following on from it.

By calling it an opinion is kind of sidestepping the point of what has been said.

You express your own opinion and believe it, wether other people do so is their choice. By trying to argue the merits of their opinion as opposed to your own is fine aslong as people do not cherry pick certian points.

that is my opinion anyway ;)

Having compared reference 7970 v reference GTX680 I think the biggest difference for me was noise, the 7970 was ear bleedingly loud whereas the GTX680 is mostly inaudible even under heavy loads, add to the that AMD seem to be having a lot more trouble this generation with noisy electrical components (coil whine or whatever) I would find it hard to recommend a 7970 unless it's a totally non-reference design.

There is too much emphasis on frame-rates nowadays, I'm the type of person who would happily sacrifice a bit of performance for the little things that all add up to a better gaming experience (the things which NVidia tend to do better).

From the fail rate of AMD cards (there have been a few and nobody can deny this) and the driver rubbish from Nvidia, we will all be on consoles soon :(

Regardless of AMD or Nvidia, they are great cards when everything is working 'as it should'

Especially if Big Gabe gets his way!

I tell you, if they had released the next gen consoles a year or two back I would probably not be bothering with PC gaming. But the games are just starting to look too ugly in comparison to PC these days.

Consoles win for simplicity. Just suck for pretty pictures :(

In defense of AMD I would say it may appear their is a higher failure on AMD cards from ocuk because their the biggest retail partner for AMD in the UK.

IMO all video cards will die at some point all my previous video cards have died bar my trusty 5770 which now sees its days in a htpc.

Got a 7950 since launch and it's been fine. Well, the first set of drivers were horrible (game crashing, big glitches, BSOD, etc), but ever since AMD stopped the monthly drivers schedule it's been a lot better. Only overclocking I did was 1ghz on the core.

To be fair, even though I don't agree with skodamart's opinion, I would never tell him his opinion is incorrect. After all it is his opinion and he is entitled to think what he likes.
Myself I am allergic to coffee so I say that it is the worlds most evil substance, now feel free to disagree with me and tell me you think I'm wrong but anyone ever tells me I'm not allowed to have that opinion then ill fight them all the way. transpose coffee for a certain religions and you can see why there have been so many wars over the centuries.

Bottom line he is entitled to think what he likes but we don't have to agree with it.

This is the issue really, loads of people think this is how opinions work and it's not correct. Everyone's entitled to an informed opinion, yet many people try to push uninformed rubbish on to people and defend it with "MY OPINION AND OPINIONS CAN'T BE WRONG".

Let's be serious here, realistically you don't actually think coffee is an evil substance (based on the actual definition of evil) but the issue here is that you're allergic to it, and no one could ever tell you something like "just drink it, it's nice and you'll be fine". That's not really about opinions again, it's about people talking rubbish.

SkodaMart isn't expressing opinions, he's talking rubbish in an attempt to justify his purchase of that GTX660Ti that he can't stop going on about to everyone with claims he can't substantiate.

The failure/faulty rate isn't necessarily an "AMD" issue, the MSI issues aren't really AMD they're MSI issues it just happens to be on an AMD based card.

People get too hung up with this point and like to blame AMD for anything that's wrong with a card that has an AMD chip on it.

Between me and my mates, all 4 of our 7xxx cards are performing well. There defo seems to be more issues and complaints with AMD cards though so I might go Nvidia next gen if they are good value (terrible value this gen).

It's very rare that nVidia offer better value anyway.

There's loads of questions you can ask him that he simply can't give a proper answer to without looking like a chump.

Wonderfully put. The idea that opinions can't be wrong has been one of my pet peeves for years. Opinions are only valid when they are informed and based on actual quantifiable and testable information. There is a difference between talking ballicks (Norn Iron Speak) and having an opinion.

Example: In my opinion the world is flat, please reference this Olde Worlde Mappe circa 750 AD.

This is a poorly formed opinion and anyone who expresses it deserves to be laughed at. They most certainly do not deserve a simple, "well you are entitled to your opinion" response. :)
