Anyone else hate birthdays ?

I've seen the "fake smiles" argument come up a few times so far. I really don't get this? Who are you socialising with, and why?!

As mentioned, you get to be top dog for the day, presents, getting fussed over, blowjob, maybe one from the missus too, what's not to like?

That doesn't stop everyone asking if you feel one year older :p. It was just tongue in cheek, I don't mind birthdays.

A birthday is the dichotomy of both another year surviving and the increasingly obvious notion that the probability of surviving to the next one is smaller.

:D

I was just going to say same thing but I like your reply -- My birthdays are now survival - 72 is next one. - Why did I think I was past it at 44 -- Oh to be 43 again ;)

I'm usually not fussed by them, I can never be bothered to arrange anything so tend to just see my grandparents and maybe my aunt, my Mum still bakes me a cake every year. It is more of a token celebration than anything else. :)

My last birthday was good fun though as I went to an OcUK car meet & pub lunch.

Birthday parties in Russia are not very fun, salad, salad, and more salad for a couple of hours, some cheap and small cut of meat like leg, wing, ect (even though the hosts are not poor). The Birthday cakes are hit and miss, some very yummy and others like the last party I been to had sour cream in and no taste at all. But glad to say, no fake smiles, apart from mine when it came to the food ;)

as others have said my birthday to me is just another day. the only birthday I make a fuss of is the misses and most importantly my son's as well.

apart from booking the day off work and that's only because the misses asks me too otherwise I would just work it

Dont like them, just a depressing day in January where everybody cant be arsed as they have overspent and overindulged over Xmas and new year and have zero enthusiasm for yours so even more fake smiles and false nicety's. This means i dont give a crap about yours either.

I take it as the opportunity to celebrate life. It's once a year, you get to celebrate with your friends and family if you choose to, and it's a great way to share the company of others who care about you. If not, celebrate your own life and treat yourself.

The thing that annoys me most about birthdays/holidays in general are cards. I just feel like they are so dated and irrelevant now but everyone still sends them. Such a waste of money, time and effort when a phone call or a text can serve exactly the same purpose and will take you a matter of seconds.

It's not just me that sees no point in cards is it?

But back on topic it's just any other day really understand the big ones like 18 etc but other than that just your average day.

Why does it have to be another night out with the guys, spend the money doing something else, use your imagination!

I do and I agree - that reference was more of an example. Sometimes we go places or whatever too. Just honestly my own Birthday doesn't excite me. I like doing things for other peoples though so it's not just all birthdays, mainly mine :P

I hate mine with a passion, I go to a lot of effort with presents for others but forever have had the excuse of dont know what to get etc and the begrudged happy birthday (Step kids), always upsets and annoys me, would rather be on holiday on the beach with a beer and forget the day, mostly manage it but this years was a nightmare again
