Does anyone else think eating at restaurants is over-rated? I don't know anyone who doesn't love it. I hate having to pretend I'm enjoying myself when I'm obliged to go out to eat.

  • I don't like strangers watching me eat.
  • I don't like watching strangers eat, especially fat ones.
  • Food is over-rated, I mostly want to fill my belly I don't really care what it tastes like as long as it's healthy. I don't like the idea of eating for entertainment.
  • I don't like spending a lot of money on something that I'm just going to poop out.
  • I don't like having to tip people just for doing their job.
  • They usually give you too much food and it gets wasted.
  • It's usually too loud, too dark, or too crowded.

Oh yeah and here everything is horribly over-seasoned and over salted to appease these diabetic land whale's diminished sense of taste from years of masturbatory gustation.

Sounds like you've got social problems from reading some of those.

Going out to a restaurant is more about socializing and enjoying yourself or celebrating occasions than actually eating the food.

I suppose there aren't many other ways to celebrate with a bunch people, even Jesus did it with his last supper. I just don't enjoy like everyone else.

If I want to spend time with one person I'd rather go for a drive or a long walk, or even go fishing instead of sitting in a big room eating.

Eating out is a big deal in the US I know lots of people who eat out once a week. I think it's almost a status symbol. Once a week at $50-100 (more if they have kids) x 52 weeks, that's thousands of $ a year literally flushed down the toilet.

You sound almost believably sane from this alone but you first post clearly has some major flaws. If you had said this the first time instead of some of the things you mentioned you wouldn't be getting this flack.

Especially the bit where you said you don't like watching people eat, like you are forced to or have no control over what you look at, then saying food is over-rated in a non chalent way as if we don't need food and other people don't enjoy different tastes. Then not liking tipping, again under this odd assumption that you must tip?

Post stupid, expect stupid.

Food is over-rated. I'd rather have a banana and spinach smoothie or grill a plain steak on my back deck than spend $50 on some over seasoned twoddle so I can pretend to be sophisticated. It's nutrition not entertainment.

OP clearly has social issues. The 'eating in front of other people' problem means he has some kind of disorder or other. The only people I've known who've had that issue have had social anxiety/panic attacks/ana/some other thing. The large, large majority of people have no problem eating in front of others.

When people are waiting for their food and drinks to arrive they often just sit there and watch other people and see what their are eating, eavesdrop on their conversations, etc. Old people are the worst. Just pay attention next time your out.

I have no problem eating I just don't like strangers watching me do it.

And as for portion sizes I live in America where they bring you 3 or 4 different plates full of food to satisfy the lowest common de-nom-nom-inator (fatties).

Come to think of it there is one place I really enjoy eating at and that's small non-chain hamburger places and diners. Nothing beats a really good slice of cherry pie and and coffee in one of those places on a rainy morning. 100% pretentious free environment. Maybe it's a city vs country thing. I can't stand smug, fashion obsessed, effete, self-righteous big city people and all their over-rated stupid BS, which basically describes 95% of the UK.
