Anyone else hate installing ram?

Its one of the more simple upgrades but does anyone else grit their teeth when installing it, applying the needed pressure to click it into place and hearing the motherboard literally groan underneath? Doesnt seem to matter what you have the board on, whether its in the case or on something solid, you always seem to get some flex where you can hear some disconcerting sounds.

What are mobo manufacturers view on this, is it possible to actually cause damage from installation of ram, and is it something they take into account under warranty?

You'd think by now there would be some kind of ZIF ram slot.

i always find having your thumb on the ends (as oppose to the middle of the stick) and pushing each side down one after the other, if i do it at the same time it feels like a lot more force required

+1, position and push down each end, requires very little pressure, relatively speaking :D

It's a funny thing. When it's a secondary build I don't mind using a bit of force and don't mind seeing the motherboard flex - especially when I don't always have enough supports for the actual motherboard, which makes it much worse. However, when it's my main build I always get much more nervous. And yes, I've been building computers for well over a decade. I push one side down until the clip secures automatically, then the other.

Then again, installing heatsinks is a pain. And I dislike putting the motherboard into the case, as I'm always worried I'll scratch up the bottom - it's even worse when the CPU, heatsink and memory are already installed.

I find it easy and buy lots of new ram sticks :)

My recent G Skills had to be sent back though because they Bsod'd and 2 sticks stopped working :(

I have often wondered if I am going to push the ram straight through the board!!
This as well, and putting it in the wrong slots. Also screwing in the bracket screws on my prolimatech super mega cooler, 70lb pressure rated screws, "when do i stop turning".:D

I just wonder why they havn't changed the ram slots to not require such force? A pcie slot for example doesnt require anywhere near the pressure of a ram slot, yet theyre similar enough in installation method.

Theres this, and I still dont know why there isnt a universal heatsink mounting system, certainly across socket types or brands, built onto the board already, you could quite easily do it.

I guess I worry occasionally about the pressure, I have more issue removing GPU's though, spent a good 5 minutes once wondering why my GPU wouldn't come out to realise I'd forgotten to unclip it..

Yes absolutely. I've been doing it for years, but I worry more now with all the heat spreaders that something is going to break on the memory PCB itself, the heat spreader will break or the motherboard will be damaged with too much pressure.

Never had a problem installing RAM. I remember my first time when one work experience where I installed 4 X 256K SIMMS lol.
