Anyone else just unenthused about gaming and hardware?

For want of a better way to put it technology has kind of hit a level that I'd been anticipating for a long time - for many general tasks we now have the performance and more the next time I will really be enthusiastic is when we make the jump to far more advanced levels of photorealistic VR, etc. (when VR/AR is as seamless and fluid or more so than playing current 2D monitor games on keyboard and mouse).

As above also partly due to the gaming scene largely stagnating.

I could upgrade my gpu but I'm happy to have £800 in my pocket playing at 1080p with a 970.
Same boat really, intersted in vega if it performs well enough to mess with 1080/1080ti pricing, but then i'll still prolly be sat here with my £800 waiting for volta

For a while I've been eyeing up a 1080 Ti but when I stop and look at it I can't remember the last time I felt I was lacking performance at 1440p other than in a poorly optimised game such as Deus Ex Mankind Divided. Since buying a 750GB SSD a year ago I have more games installed than ever (18) and for some reason can't muster up enough interest to play most of them right now. Even outside of purchases I used to find the tech and competition fascinating but the GPU arena has been bereft of real excitement for some time now and my hardware enthusiasm is waning (although as many have said Ryzen has piqued my interest somewhat).

Even before this point wanting cutting edge hardware was a something of a habit rather than a conscious decision because looking back over the last few years I've spent most of my time in pretty undemanding and cheap games such as Mordheim: City of the Damned, War Thunder and Rocket League. Part of it is age and circumstance (I have a 2 year old daughter and another addition to the family due in December) and the rest sheer indifference to many of the new games due soon.

Personally I just lose interest for a while then for no apparent reason get right back into gaming. Maybe I'd just rather be outside in summer? Maybe because I'm so busy at work, I just wanna chill and watch TV when I'm home?

I've spent a ridiculous amount on hardware this year - CV1 + touch, a new PSU, 3 Titan Xp's (I destroyed one installing a hybrid cooler - hey ho you live and learn). All this and I've hardly played in weeks!

Shame so many developers cannot truly optimize their games for PC as well as they do for the consoles. Image truly squeezing out every bit of performance among most of todays and the last year or two of GPUs.

Look how many people said how did they manage that with Uncharted 4. Even Neil Druckmann said the same about Horizon Zero Dawn

I like the new GPU market (well i guess before mining) 1080p MAXED for under £200 most of the timw £220 at most for a 1060. 1440p Winning for the price of a R9 290 at release, after 4 years the price segment means 1440p instead of 1080p for the same price and since i bagged a (pre-order) 1080ti founders for £582 4k is quite well done for. not maxed but 4k gaming on high or max on older games was unthinkable in 290x days and for about the same price

Its the resolution thats moved not the physics, textures 3d etc. Same price 1 step up resolution. And since CPUs dont need upgrading really since 2012 a simple gpu will completely refresh my pc.

Hardware-wise I've been unenthused for a few years now. I've currently got an R9 290 at 1200p. But later this year or early next year I'm planning to make the leap to 4K and an 8GB+ card - I'll be very enthused then :D. Gaming-wise I'm always loving it; so many great games, and I'm fine with medium/high settings. Still, I want to upgrade.

Ultimately it's more enjoyable to use computers to create than to consume.

If gaming has lost its lustre, get into digital art, audio/video stuff, or writing your own software!

Been on this forum and watching tech for some time now. And don't think I've ever been this "unenthused" about the state of things. What with Nvidia being so pricey at launch. Vega being nowhere, and when it does come potentially not even that great. Power hungry, no cards available and all grossly overpriced due to mining craze. Ram shortages and prices.

I'm just really not excited at the moment.
Honestly if it wasn't for Ryzen making the CPU space exciting again at least then I really don't know if I would still bother. It's really not the pricing specifically. But I need to be excited by new tech. And at the moment I'm just not feeling it. There is nothing game changing. Nothing "wow".

I dunno, just ranting but it really seems as if the GPU space is just a total mess right now. Not sure what the future holds for it.
We are all fairly loyal PC folk here but I can't help but think that more casual folk are switching to console rather than enter or stay in this very murky and expensive swamp.

Agree completely.

Best games - as that's what it's all about - I've played this year...

..have been on the PS4 Pro.

Cue flames from the MasterRace (tm) :)

I'm really psyched for Shadow of War on the PS4. Cannot wait for October.
