Anyone else NOT voting today?

So the two governments you'll have seen in your lifetime then, you didn't think about voting for alternatives?

Nope, they haven't earned my vote, they need to try harder.

We should be able to vote for policies from each party not vote for the party itself.

Can someone tell me the deadline for postal votes?

(My lass forgot yesterday and its still here today)

I'm off to vote soon, can i take it in there?

you should still decide who's policy's you agree with more and vote for them, remember your voting for your mp primarily as far as voting for a person goes.

It should be the law to vote.
While I agree in principle and obviously it gets a more democratic result, I think the votes of people who wouldn't vote given the choice are essentially null votes anyway, if forced to vote for a party they're going to just tick any box rather than making an informed decision.

As two of the parties have said that they would like reforms in voting procedures I can only hope that voting becomes a legal requirement.

All they need do is add a "None of the above" box to the paper - those that really have no opinion can just place their mark in that box.

An alternative option was to pay everyone £5 to vote and again adding the "None of the above" option.

Turn-out is actually expected to be around 60% so as elections go that isn't too bad.
But those 40% of people who didn't vote could have totally changed whatever tonight's result is.

For those not going to vote 'nothing worth voting for' etc...

At least go along to your polling station and 'spoil' your ballot paper.

This way, they know people are physically going to vote, but there's nothing worth voting for.

Me. Only because I have not been send a voting card to my current address or home address. IMO voting should be done online on a secure site after a quick registration and entering your passport number for confirmation. This way everyone would get a vote and it would be easier to see country statistics such as areas where people vote for who (whom?) For those people who dont have the Net then librarys or other places could be used

No idea why I havent been sent a card or anything

They already have areas, they're called wards and constituencies

If none of the parties seem to fit your ideas then you could at least vote for the party that wants to change the voting system. Then maybe next time we will have a worthwhile vote.

I agree with the general feeling here all the likely parties will have to take the same actions in the short term.

I don't like the way we vote or the way government is selected, we are supposed to vote for a local representative who will take our needs to government. However we end up voting for a party and having to abide by that parties ideals.

I also have a problem with the goings on in parliament especially the so called 'debates' - what a bunch of children!

My policy this election has been to first and foremost NOT vote for any existing MP, then at least there would be some fresh blood.

I can't wait for Saturday when it is hopefully all over.

Andi.

I don't vote. Two reasons. First of all it's meaningless; this country was bought and sold a long time ago. The **** they shovel around every 4 years *pfff* doesn't mean a ****ing thing. Secondly, I believe if you vote, you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around – they say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain', but where's the logic in that? If you vote and you elect dishonest, incompetent people into office who screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You caused the problem; you voted them in; you have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote, who in fact did not even leave the house on election day, am in no way responsible for what these people have done and have every right to complain about the mess you created that I had nothing to do with.

As PlumpMonkey said earlier, you can spoil your ballot intentionally if you want, and spoilt ballots are counted.
I would like to see a similar situation to Australia, compulsory voting, but a the fine for not is only small AU$ 20. They get up to 95% voter turnout there.

In my area the polling stations is so quiet that you wouldn't think there is an election going on. I can see one polling station from my window as I sit here now and there hasn't been anyone in there since at least 10am. This does include at least 500 people walking past there since. I might be safe to say that voting is not a popular thing to do in North London. Personally, I have socks to wash and need a haircut, so I'm giving this vote a miss.

Haven't read the majority of this thread so I'm sure that this has been mentioned.

If you don't vote then you have NO right to complain about any aspect of the way to country is run.

I'm certain that's the driving reason behind why people on here vote. So at least when it all invariably goes **** up they can come back on here and bitch about it.

Why do people keep saying this, intentionally spoiling your ballot is valid and has the same effect.
