Anyone else regret buying a x2 939?

I really wish I never bought a X2 939 socket last year, it wasn't even 9 months before they d/c them and release AM2.. look how long 478 was around for!

They were the best around at the time, so no. If everyone just waited for the next thing to arrive, we'd never end up buying PCs at all.

not regret buying 939 for a second, great processor and still going strong, still more than enough for anything really :)

you would regret c2d just as much as intel will obsolete it soon enough ;) c2d isnt fast enough to upgrade from a 939/am2 system but whatever is next from intel/amd should be a nice jump from 939 and c2d.

we think dual core is slow because nothing utilises it properly yet. what will come of the slower clocked quad cores which nothing will utilise properly either .

the exact reason i still have this athlon in my system instead of C2D, upgrade to C2 seemed somewhat pointless

I had an Athlon X2 4800 939 for about 6 months, I was gutted to see that Intel were the better chips.

So 6 months on i sold my Athlon for £20 less than i bought it, and then got an Intel :D

No regrets whatsoever.

My x2 4400+ is still chugging happily away at 3.03ghz. It performs quite well. I'm going to upgrade my GPU before I change platforms...the x2 does it's job just fine.

I'd like to see the advantages of a 4800+ over my Single core FX-55 (multi -applications apart) however, 4800+'s are becoming akin to the loch ness monster, much said of with very few sightings..... :(

I regret not getting a better graphics card when I built this machine TBH. The 6800GS has been good, but a 7800 or similar would still be fine for another year.

I bought my X2/Opteron while stocks were vanishing (fully aware that 939 was going dead end) and I have no regrets. Cheap and quick upgrade and multitasking is considerably quicker. 939's got life in it, performance wise :)

A 20second Pi 1M would be nice, but last time I checked, my computer's primary use wasn't benchmarks...

Not in entire agreement, C2D still oblitirates x2 AMD for Encoding, I couldnt believe the difference from my old 3800 x2 Compared to my current C2D 6700 granted huge leap even for those different chips. But the Quads are meant to be even netter again.

there has to be one :p

Yup and I was an AMD man of 8 years, never owned a Intel chip in my computer life :D Totally converted now, but I still loved my old 3800 :(
