Anyone else running the Eurotunnel gauntlet this summer?

Hi guys. On Eurotunnel again tomorrow with my young family and just thought I'd check in. Anyone seen the news recently?

According to Eurotunnel, hot temperatures are unprecedented in summer, so I will be waiting circa 5 hrs to board...after check in that is.

My thread and its gripes stand, despite all you Eurotunnel fans claiming I'm exaggerating it all.

You start a thread bemoaning the Eurotunnel then you use it again the very next year ... I am sure there is a word for that

The migrants aren't satisfied with life in Paris, so are starting to move back to Calais.

Evidence: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4413134/Migrants-lured-Calais-charities.html

I’m not inclined to open a Mail link, you’d get more truth from the National Enquirer, but my German resident son was over a couple of months back, via Le Shuttle, and he didn’t mention anything about migrants on the French side.
He’s a bit of an enigma though, complains bitterly about migrants in Germany on occasion, but thinks the world of his younger son’s Muslim girlfriend, and says he’ll vote for “Mutti” the German nickname for Frau Merkel, in the next election, as no matter how many asylum seekers she let in, she’s Germany’s best bet in his opinion.

He's referring to Ceuta, a Spanish "owned" enclave in Africa which borders Morocco which is becoming the most popular entry point into the EU after the Boat people hitting Italy, Malta and Spain.

I'm aware of Ceuta.
Calais is in France. France is in the EU. The migrants there are already inside the EU. Him pointing out that the reduction in numbers of migrants at Calais is because there's a new favourite place to "breach into" the EU makes no sense.

I've used it twice this year, both times in June and apart from a delay the second time around leaving the UK (which they caught up on) there were zero issues. Didn't see a single migrant on the French side.

Used it three weeks ago, when holidaying in the South of France.

UK side - brilliant, there an hour early, then straight onto the train via a short queue, and 30 odd minutes later off in France. Hurrah!!

French side... erm, not great. There three hours early, and lucky we were, as it took in excess of an hour just to get past the first barrier. Doggy check in was fine, but our train back was delayed for an hour - and Burger King ran out of beef!

Other than that, it was our first time driving on the continent, and it was overall a pretty good experience.

I went over via the tunnel last Saturday. Our train was booked for 5.10pm but on arrival they said there was an hours delay. Then 20mins later they called our letter and every other letter and the car park turned into chaos. By the time we'd cleared passport control and boarded it was just gone 6pm. Hopefully all the problems are sorted for next Saturday as that's when I'm coming home!

Doggy check in was fine

That's good to know as I've got el doggo with me and have never used it before.

We’re booked out on the 13.39, Monday July 30, and back on the 15.20, Wednesday August 01, I’m just hoping that all the TV news talk of delays due to the unusual heat of last week, will have tailed off.
If there’s a delay, we’ll just have to bite the bullet, I don’t suppose they’ll say, “Oh look, it’s Jean-F, get him on quick.”

I'm heading off Sunday for a 18:06 train, really hoping the delays are at a minimum by then but it's not looking likely.

I had read that Eurotunnel only put on hourly trains throughout the night instead of the usual every 15 min they do throughout the day which is crazy considering there was/is a huge backlog to clear out, it's no wonder the queues are worse today.

Be careful what you read and interpret. There are 3/4 trains an hour till about 01:20 in the morning, with 6 trains at various points until about 7 in the morning when 4 departures an hour kick starts again.

Weekend nights are the only time works can be carried out in the running tunnels. Be that preventative or corrective maintenance.

Well we crossed yesterday afternoon. 20 minute delay but aside from that it was a breeze.

Blind optimism is what I'd call it. I'm sure you've thought of something more crass though.

Lots of misty eyes for the Eurotunnel in here, which is surprising given its flakiness in anything other than perfect operating conditions.

I guess that's the British for you though. Accepting of, if not almost celebrating, failure.

Went over on Monday, absolutely painless, came back today, got an earlier departure today, no extra payment, no hassle whatsoever.
Had a blast in St. Omer, great bars and restaurants, would recommend it

I am in a few weeks. Went over there for Le Mans Classic a few weeks ago. Mostly painless. A delay of an hour coming home, but meh, it's not so bad.
