why does every single lettuce I buy always have flies living inside it? I even found what appeared to be a baby slug inside one before...

everyone else finds crap almost every time or just me?

I've completely gone off them now after the last one had about 10 little flies inside it..

I know you are supposed to wash them but still..

What could you substitute for lettuce in a BLT?
 
Agreed! We have a lovely old school grocer local to us, it's dirt cheap, great British produce and the people that run it are lovely. But their lettuce is always full of bugs so I refuse to buy it :p Who can be arsed washing it all before use? It never dries..
 
Buy ready washed mixed leaf salad bags from supermarket. Tiny bit more expensive but tasty, quick and no bugs.
 
What kind of lettuce is it?

Wash it and get a salad spinner. Takes minutes and you get nice clean dry leaves.

You can even do the whole lot then keep it in a bag in the fridge.
 
Lettuce is rubbish, You use up more energy eating it than you get back out the lettuce. Don't buy it ever again. :p

iceberg lettuce.

They probably still have bugs if you look close enough lol
always seems to be the crappy outer leaves in those packs as well...

not sure if true but it sounds plausible lol
 
No not really.

I want bugs at least it's been grown outside and not hydroponically, quickly and with no taste.

Shock horror stuff grown outside has insects.

Better off eating something more dense like Broccoli ;)
 
Try and find a lettuce farm that isn't afraid to use pesticides.

Alos, just have a wafer thin ham sandwich it's way easier to make.
 
Iceberg is terrible lettuce as well.

Get some romaine or gem. Much tastier and I've never had a problem with the bugs in the ones from Tesco.

Bags of salad are terrible too. So dry and flavourless. I only buy the mixed leaves at a push.
