Anyone else think Half life 2 is poo

indeed, its nowhere near as long as hl2.

I felt it was overpriced, although if ep2 is the same price i wont complain, as portal&TF2 come with it. HAVE YOU SEEN THE TF2 VIDS? hah, they'r immense!

Im thankful that HL1 Source came with EP1.

I got the original HL1 and after I bought HL2, and then HL1 came out on source, I tried to get it, but steam told me that I could only buy one on my credit card??? - I have bought nothign on my card the silly gits.

Anyway, I finally got it when EP1 was installed, and thats been great.

No, I have not seen any VIDs but getting HL1 with EP1 made it a little more worth it, and if EP2 comes on its own, then I have no intention of getting it, but, as you say, it comes with those others, so they all help dont they?

it doesnt come on its own, valve have already said portal comes with it and TF2 does too!
If you dont want those games it makes it a bit of a rip off, but who in the right mind doesnt want to try them out? TF2 looks hilarious, and portal looks pretty cool

My main gripe with HL2 is the combat was very average and felt horribly dated. Golden Eye on the N64 poos all over HL2 when it comes to gunplay and that came out in 1997! The vehicle sections were also ropey.

Other than this I enjoyed the game, the physics, the visuals, but didn't like how Gordon had been changed from the everyman's hero I could relate to in the original to a super hero master chief clone who travels around destroying everything in his path. There's an aimless feel to things - a far cry from the clear drive (just get out, survive) that puts us behind the crowbar so well in the original.

HL2 raised the bar in many areas, just not in the ones that made HL great.

Have to agree with a lot of peeps here that it wasn't as good as it could have been, I got a bit sick of the river stuff.

I 100% agree with you, HL2 raised bar in graphics and AI imo, but HL was a massive hit.

I found it so damn boring, yeah it looks nice but gameplay is knowhere near as good as the original, on the top 10 pc game list everyone has it, i just dont see how its good, the only thing that i found worth the money was that it came with counters strike source. Every Reviewer loves it and gives it 9 and 10 out of 10 in reviews, but imo its like a 5 or 6.

There's this amazing thing called "personal opinion" :)

I liked HL2. The graphics, the gameplay, the sounds, even the fighting. But i prefer the mods for Source games much more. HL2 is about 5th on my list of all time greats.

I almost threw up and hurled during the River part.....

But HL2 was still an enjoyable game, aint even completed HL1 ever....

And I agree about FEAR, repetitive same levels, same guys shooting at end of the day and dated old graphics I didnt see all the fuss made over that. They could have at least made one of the soliders pink after 4 hrs or something.

I think HL2 is one of the best FPS games. The graphics are still awesome, some 3 years after it was released. I found the gameplay addictive and compelling, in fact I completed it again immediatly after the first time, which I never do!

However half life 2: episode 1 was a let-down. Tiny, with much of the same. I see valve's strategy of releasing three episodes as nothing more than a money spinner.

I thought half life 2 was pretty good, espically compared to tripe like fear. Oblivion was pretty poor to, but then again we all know that reviewers have to get their money somehow. :D

Episode 1 came in the pack that I bought, I assumed it was nothing more than an expansion or a teaser though because of how short it was, not a full price game.

I dont think thats the reason it got good reviews, and the reviewers get their money from advertisements placed in the magazines and websites etct.

If you liked Morrowind, keep playing it, it will grow on you, I hated Obliv when I first got it.

I have Oblivian but never played it for more than about 10mins, I know a friend says it grows on you but why does it suck so early on.
I'm getting old now I don't have time to arse around with the dull bits.

I have to say that I too found Obvlivion a bit naff...

I also thought PainKiller was a bit iffy too at first, but hey, I was told to keep going as the first level is a bit like that, and guess what?

Its all I play now. I was so impressed that I had not even got musch into level 2 and I have already bought PainKiller : Battle out of hell and Im half way through that too!

FarCry, HL2, Fear, Doom3, Quake4 etc are all crap in comparison to this little beauty.

So, sometimes its worth giving it, its fair due.

I did exactly the same thign with Oblivion... I thought I would give that its fair due back then too, and I stuck with it... Ok, it was still crap, but hey, I gave it a chance. LOL

I might have Painkiller somewhere, I think it came free with a graphics card.
I never installed and I bet I carn't find the discs either but if I do I'll give it ago.

doom 3 had a better storyline and boss fights, half life 2 was technically a better game but lacked the feel that doom 3 had. So doom 3 wins out, Hl2 best moment is Ravenholdt. Doom 3's? Probably fighting Sarge and the lead up to it.

Doom 3 had a story line?

Hmm... It was probably hidden in one of the levels then cos I didnt get to see mine?

HL2 = Ravenholm. Oh defo... I also liked Prospekt Nova and AntiCitizen one... Those are as good as each other for me...

I loved games that have a lot going on, and AntiC1 seemed to have that kind of feel to it. You are fighting your own little war and all around you, everyone else is fighting theirs... I liked that, but as has been said a billion times, its too linear all the way through. Had there been some kind of flexibility in it, I recon the whole game would have been far, far better.

However, saying that, every single FPS games similar to this, all have that exact same linear game-play as the next one... Some just manage to hide it better than others, and I cannot name one that isnt.

I generally liked HL2 but probably only because it was HL2. Was a decent game definitely but if it hadn't got the Half-Life name I don't think half as many people would have heaped praise on the thing.

Worst bits for me were the driving parts as they just felt really strange. They didn't implement vehicles well at all for me.

As a technology display, I found it to me most impressive. Graphics, physics modelling, presentation, interactivity, sound and general immersion were, at the time, second to none. The core gameplay was, on the other hand, a bit on the dull side (aside from a few exceptions). To me, it seemed that in an effort to create a more realistic simulated world, the developers created ridiculously large game areas that actually contained very little content. An over proliferation of big, open cityscapes and buildings populated with odd uninspiring enemy and very little else of worth. Don't get me wrong, I still thought it to be for the most part fun to play, and I diligently soldiered on to the end.

I always found the original HL to be somewhat overrated too. Prior to its release, Rare's Goldeneye had set a new precedent for first person shooters, and I think the PC gaming community were slightly overeager to champion their own 'king' of the newly formed realistically interactive game era... The multiplayer though... :D
