Anyone else think Half life 2 is poo

I'm at a total loss as to how people didn't like the boat and car parts of the game :D They're my favourite!

Not just the actual driving of the vehicles becuase I think that was average at best, I think that by travelling around the levels a sense of how big the game is was achieved. My favourite part is still crusing along the cliff edges in the buggy stopping off at the little encampments to pwn combine :D

The combat feel boring and dated though. They just stand there shooting, and the guns you fire hardly have any feel to them. Just pop pop, no sense of power or urgency. The revolver probably comes close to that, but the rest of the weaponry just feels crap.

Agreed. The arsenal is pretty dire (except for the shotgun, they're always good :)) and the lack of enemy reaction to being shot results in weapons that feel as powerful as spud guns. You drill someone with a machine gun and there's not even a flinch or cry of pain :/ Give me GE with enemies hopping around and holding their foot in pain, or PD with ppl clutching their necks and gurgling as they fall to the ground. Combine death animations with ragdolls and then we'll have something special :)

Ok, if I was to choose the one and only thing that did annoy me about HL2, then it would be a hard one!

I have to say, that I found it flawless and I loved every bit of it.

The thing is, that over time, with threads like this, I look and see what annoys others, and sure, sone have valid points and sure, the game could have done this or that here and there, and so I have also pointed out a lot of flaws too!

Does this lessen the game at all for me?

Unfortunately, while I try to say it does not, it does, and it has in many ways spoiled it for me.

Much the same as almost any other FPS game, you know what to do and when and where... I recon a blind person, can, with practise, complete the game from start to finish, because it is 100% identical from one part to another... This is a biggie for me. There is no variation, no random element at all.

The one and only biggie for me however, is possibly also the most ridiculous too! - Every citizen with a headcrab, had white shirt and jeans!!! - simple, in order to kill off the attacks, dont use Daz!

Whats wrong with the people of City 17? LOL

The problem I had with HL2 was the hype.

It was made out to be the best thing ever and to me it was no more than an average shooter.

Okay the mavity gun was amusing at first but I like having a decent aresenal of weapons, and sadly HL2 lacked any real punch in this area, except the RPG's and the alt. fire of the combine rifle thingy.

I remember reviews saying at the time how they almost cried due to the emotion, the little nuances in each facial movement etc... what a load of rubbish. Like most guys, I'd give Alyx one if she were real tho, heh.

I hoped for much more interesing puzzles. The vehicles were a big disappointment, that boaty craft thing near the beginning went on waaayyyyy too long.

I think of the game more fondly now, as I accept it for what it is, but I was much more satisfied with Doom 3 at the time. True it was a by the numbers generic corridor monster shooter but it didn't try to be anything else. The use of sound was fantastic and I didn't use the duct-tape mod as I liked creeping around with a torch not knowing what was gonna try to get me next. It genuinely scared the crap outta me a few times.

Overall HL2 was good, but not good enough.

She is real... Or at least they used real people to base the characters on.

Id give lamaar one.

Better looking than my EX anyway.

someones just pointed something pretty relevant out.
a lot more satisfactory than Doom3 really, both out around same time.
Obviously it lacked some things, but it had others. We're all still waiting for a game to have it all.

Ravenholm still ranks as one of my all-time favourite parts of any game. The first time I picked up one of those saw-blades with the mavity gun and sliced half a dozen zombies together was pure class. Then when their top halves carried on coming at me  :D

Funny I just picked up HL2 Episode 1 and forgot how much I enjoyed HL2 single player, for me its the physics puzzles and the enemy AI. Looking forward to Episode 2 now

i found far cry and doom 3 much better.

same, im afraid gordon freeman is such a GOON, hes pretty bad hero IMO, plus the gameplay felt abit boring, and there was those STUPID enemies, those little muffin things that leap at you, there just an annoyance rather than an enemy, and the giant tongue things on the roof  bizarre, needless to say i enjoyed farcry the most out of the three, then doom 3 very close behind, then half-life 2 a bit behind that, doom has incredibly good atmosphere, especially your first time on it, its jarring, nerve wracking and just generally quite disturbing in parts (flying babies, WTF?!?!)

Edit: spelling mistake by the way, believe it or not im only human and do make the occational mistype

1. Racism = Ban, read a dictionary, hes not black and hes not a racoon.
2. Would you rather he was a marine, or government agent, or retired special forces, a hedgehog, a secret agent, a plumber?
3. Confused with giant tongue things on the roof(an alien lifeform..?) yea, a real bad enemy idea, just like those muffins.. Ridiculous, why couldnt they have made it with.. flying babies? Or just other human beings? mercinarys, and then thrown some mad ape-like creatures in too? That would have been a good idea. Yea, very strange idea for enemys..
4. Dooms atmosphere never changed, after a while it became somewhat repeatitive. Most games suffer from this, yes, I feel hl2 did, but not to the extent Doom3 did. Far Cry was great, but it also had its tedious bits.

To sum it up, Gashman, you're post was Gash.
Racism, double standards, extreme ignorance, lack of justification etc.

right first off i didn't mean ****, i have no idea what a **** is, nor do i wish to know, so if you were offended i must apologise (not sure if thats spelt right) but everyone makes occational mistype, plus this keyboard has keys that feel weird and i mistype a lot with it, right back on topic. yes dooms atmosphere was the same throughout, but hell it was something 'different' half-life 2, great engine, though the guns felt abit weak, enjoyable game, but those alien things weren't really good enemies, they died in a shot of anything so whats the point? the tongue things, great creativity but like happens im doom there not a hard enemy, there just a mere annyoance, like imps for instance, doom looses all its appeal second time round, its like 'been there, done that, got the t-shirt' sort of game, but then so are the other two. i do still however believe far cry is the best of the three games mentioned for several reasons, the scenery was simply spectacular, it wasn't dark, gloomy or trying to be, it was bright, vibrant and colourful, was something new, the enemies didn't seem overly retarded and didn't just appear from nowhere like doom, plus the trigens were lethal when they got you, giving the game a bit of a pulse factor, IMO thats something half life lacked, in the first incarnation as well, lacked any 'omph' if thats the correct word to use. to summaries, wth far cry i felt happy when i completed the game, with doom 3 i was happy with the way the game played, and the ending was decent, half-life 2 for some reason left me wanting 'more', though episode 1 is shaping up to be a pretty good one, playing through it at the moment and it feels better than HL2, so anyways  and before i go i do totally agree with you saying half life wasn't as tedious as doom, cause thats true :)

It leaving you wanting more is a sign of a good game, i was disappointed it had ended because i was really into it. i felt robbed because i wanted more. But it was well worth it. Ep1 was a let down, being so short. And having to wait so long till ep2 release is a joke.

Far Cry was great yea, but the story was a bit crap towards the end, somewhat predictable and seemed a bit lame. The last chapters in the story were rushed through really, Id felt detatched from it by then.

Serious Sam 2 - now thats what I call fun :D Sod a proper storyline, just have crap jokes and loads of action, with loads of wierd things. Playing on Serious Mode was by far the best part of the game though, although in co-op the same number of enemys were present and no difficulty increase was made, so basically if like me you found the Serious difficulty setting challenging, but always managable(with some hard work:D) it got way to easy with friends, but still fun and hectic, and its a big game.

Quake4 was also stunning to be honest.

I loved Quake 2

I have played through the thing so many times, it must be 30-40 times at least.

Quake 3 Arena was ok, I enjoyed it purely because Im also a UT fan.

When I heard Q4 was going to go back to the Q2 story and continue from that, I was so exited.

Now, the Q4 storyline, for me was spot on, the game itself was stunning and awesome etc etc etc and absolutely 100% perfect.

However...

All the way through the entire game, I was given the impression that I was still paying doom3.

Now, when I look back on Q2, I see that it was a fairly light game ( Light as in well lit up - not too dark ). Doom3 was dark, Quake 4 was dark. It was obviously alos using the Doom3 engine. So, if they would have written the Q4 game with a bit more lighting, then perhaps it would have given it a closer to a Quake 2 feel rather than a Doom3 one?

Anyway, that was my only issue with Q4 - It was too close to doom3.

I have completed Q4 just twice, and since then, Ihave gone back to Q2 and completed that another 3 or 4 times since.

hl2 sucked, graphically, physics engine both ended up meaning there were just a sodding huge amount of boxes everywhere and that was the whole idea behind the game. driving between area's was so entirely boring i wanted to kill myself.

generally boring, brain dead enemies. pretty poor boring feeling weapons and ignoring the general idea behind every other game of building up to a frantic manic finish using the best weapons in the game you got to, repeatedly grab up a load of brain dead and utterly uninteresting, uninspired baddies in an identical way over and over, for bloody ages. awful finish, and then Ep1 was what, exactly the same area's, levels, nothing new, nothing different, same boring weapons though this time you start with the insanely boring grav gun and move on to a range or weapons. then it was what 30 minutes long. for the person that found it hard, i have to laugh, it was stupidly easy and what 2 hours of gameplay and i can't get my money back :(

doom3 pretty, interesting for 10 minutes, but walking down endless corridoors and turning around every what, 17 seconds as you know a guy is going to jump from a hidden door after you pass, over and over and over and over again. honestly i can't remember if i ever finished it, got so bored in first day i put it down and can't think if i ever went back to it.

quake 4 was way more interesting than doom 3 gameplay wise but still rather uninspired.

F.E.A.R as with all games got some samey bits going on but some of the weapons were awesome, the slow down effects made for some stunning battles and its the only game every where i've truly jumped. completely boring to replay as, well, obviously if you know where the creepy little chick is gonna jump out from you aren't gonna be scared :p

i like rpg's and mmorpg's and though oblivion was utterly dire.

despite not liking hl2, graphically it was very sparse and in huge open area's you'd have, you know, boxes to fill it in the one reason i'll never regret buying it, CS:S. ok, i can get very very bored of it but it lasted for ages, i can still play for a couple hours here and there without getting bored, its simply a great game to play online.

i think one great bit of HL2 though was the , hmm, tripod sequence, running over to some town hall looking command post across a huge open area with a few tunnels and bits and there are 3 or so tripods to kill.

Got this about 6 months ago, the Game Of The Year version with all the extras. Loaded it up, went through all the Stream business, played it for 60 minutes, and have never returned.

I don't really think its a bad game, it just didn't grip me at all.

Might try again, but what with Supe Commander taking all my time, and STALKER/C&C3 coming soon... HL2 might have a wait for my time.

I bought it ages ago, on release, and have played it through about 4 or 5 times. I love it. Its just one of those games where i say ill have a quick go as im bored but then end up playing for hours. Walking across the underside of that bridge was one of the best parts of the game, the music was so eerie. As posted above i really cant wait for BM:S. I'd like to see a deus ex sort of game using the source engine.

While i disagree with you on HL2, i know how you feel. There are many games that suck to me that get high ratings. Oblivion was horrible to me but yet it got huge ratings all over the place.

Yes I'm the same with Farcry...looks nice but is very ordinary as a game.
