Hey guys im wondering if anyones using the Thermalright Silver arrows, got one today and my temps are below:

Idle

Load

So is this normal? with load the difference between 1 and 2 as appose to 3 and 4 are quite big I am wondering if the coolers isnt level.

Cant comment on the silver arrow as ive never used it, however temp variation on quad cores is perfectly normal. Iirc, my own q6600 loaded at 68-62-68-62, lapped cpu and cooler. Tbh, ive only ever seen one screenshot of an intel quad with perfectly even temps across the cores.

load temps of what ? and theres no way of judging things by idle temps really as your room temps could be warm.

Try intel burn test and report back also try prime 95

also do you have speed step on etc etc etc

I'd bung it at 3.5-3.6 ghz 1.45volts and see what the silver arrow can do that is total overkill for such a mild overclock

load temp with Small FFT in Prime95
no i don't have speed step enabled

Have to say doesn't look too amazing BUT it's at the higher voltages and clocks it will show how good it is.

Just got one of these yesterday and got my q6600 set to 3GHz too. I've got pretty much the same temps as you, idling about 35c to 40c and won't push 55c when I've ran prime95 on it and this is with the fans at 50%! My freezer pro was more like 60-65c running max when at the same 100% load on OC so yeah, I think this is a good upgrade.

Will be sticking it at 3.2-3.4 in a few weeks when I get a new PSU as mine is now the noisest thing in the system and is actually struggling with the OC (i can hear it sruggling!)

I think the thing with the silver arrow is it's so quiet and like I said, you can run it at 50% speed and still get great temps on nice overclocks.

What volts are you putting into it mate? Can't remember what i knocked mine down too but i took it straight off and down in the mid 1.2's i think.

What case you using with it bud? I was using some Xigmatek cooler i grabbed off another forum for 9 quid! and it was more or less the same temps as this baby :/

Volts is at 1.275v at the moment. I've come home tonight and it's not moved from 31c on idle so either it's colder in here or it's settled in a bit.

I'm using a coolermaster 690 II advanced. It only just fits and I mean just! A few mm either side and it wouldn't have! What case have you got?

I take it you're not too impressed with it then? I quite like it but I think that on the q6600 it's probably overkill and most aftermarket coolers will do the same for <£50 but I bet it's more impressive on the i7 ranges.

I'll have to see what it's like come march time when I get a better PSU to handle the higher OC to 3.4 or a bit more.

Q6600 is one of the hottest cpus on the planet. My [email protected] VID 1.2625v and I am using Thermalright IFX-14 (ancestor of silver arrow) with 2 Akasa Viper fans and MX-4 thermal paste and in Intel Burn Test temps reach close to 70C on the hottest cores and that's with vipers at around 90% as they are pwm controlled though in prime temps reach around 63C on hottest cores.

Overclock your [email protected] and then run Intel Burn test on custom stress level and input 'Free' memory. Please do report your GFlops values which many people seem to get wrong and coretemps. That way we will know how your stress testing went and whether silver arrow was up to the job:).

Spot on!

Hey WingZero, i'll run it at 3.4 when I get a new PSU for the reasons stated above but I just re-seated my heatsink and ran prime95 and it never went above 50c but gave IntelBurnTest a pass and it got the temps to 59c whilst the fans were at 1000RPM and GFlops were 39.6519.

I don't know whether the fans are total overkill or not but I'm impressed as my freezer pro topped out at about 62c in prime95 under the same conditions.

That seems impressive. I take it that your [email protected]. What settings did you use in Intel burn test? Also make sure that threads is set to 4 in IBT(Intel Burn Test) and that EIST (speedstep) and C1E are disabled in bios and any power saving feature is off. That way nothing will be constraining your cpu from using it's maximum potential.

If you are hitting close to 60C in IBT for [email protected] then expect it to hit 70C for [email protected].

I'm not 100% on the settings so I'll re-run it as per your instructions tonight and let you know.

I imagine that 70C on an IBT is about a spot on estimate for 3.4GHz and I'm happy with that completely because the fans are so quiet and in real world usage I don't expect it to be creeping past 55-60c.

True:).

My 2600k at 4.6GHz pushes CPU temps on my Silver Arrow to the low-mid 70s under 100% load. This is with 1.35v vCore.

I'm sure my temps would drop 3-4 degrees if I could change the placement of the fans on my Silver Arrow, but due to my memory's taller heatspreaders, my fans are in pull-pull config, which I'm sure is less efficient.

I'm using a R3, I am impressed and I aren't im in between really the thing is I will probs be bumping up to SB at some point and I don't have a cooler that will fit but this which is probably one reason I will keep it I'm not saying its bad at all its just annoying that I got a xigmatek cooler from a different forum for £9 and there performance is about the same though like has been said it will probs full ahead in a higher clock and work a bit better.

Increased my 2600K overclock to 48X and BCLK 102, effectively 4896MHz.

vCore is 1.39v

Idle temps are still around 40ºC and 100% load temps are 78-80ºC.

I'm just wondering if those load temps are a touch high or are they to be expected with this sort of vCore and OC?
