Anyone else waiting for silent hunter 5 to be released ??

Again, were back in the dark ages with next installment of SH. By now I was expecting at least some underwater battles, if not a lot more modern style Subs, and heading towards the Cold War.

Will be giving this one a miss, might wait till SH10 is released

I m guessing this is back to the german side with the same sort of thing as the 4th one.....thats not a bad thing looking at the vids they have done some improvements to it

Not for me unless they remove the need for an internet connection, it's not because I don't have one it's the principle and the fact that if I do have an internet problem I can't play a game I've paid for.

If the game was MP only then that would be a reason to have a constant connection.

I'll be passing on this one I think. A constant net connection is a bit over the top.

This.

DRM does not bother me usually however this sucks.

I was going to get it, however, the DRM on this game is a massive no. There are alternatives, such as what BF:BC2 is going to use, but no thats not good enough is it, lets make it so you need to be online all the time! Its ok though as everyone has broadband... /end rant

well give me a chance ;) might try the original game first....unless you lot say go straight to the mod :)

Go straight to the mod.

& whilst you're about it, get over to the subsim dot com radioroom forums and check out the mods section for SH3; everything you need to know about supermods like The Grey Wolves etc. Get JSGME (mod enabler) and SH3 Commander too.

As for SH5, well, I'd like to see what it's like but there's two factors that don't make it for me:
1) I'm still using SH3 (not even played SH4 yet)
2) This bizarre idea of having to have a permanent internet connection to play the game.

There's an amusing (if somewhat sim-geeky) Das Boot movie on youtube called Das DRM that illustrates the problem.

Love the Das DRM. Really funny!

All this, store your save games online bull and other "advantages" of the DRM strategy they have adopted. Grrr. As they say you cant polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter....

loved no.4

will be getting no. 5 even with DRM - but its a bit annoying they've gone down that route ... :(

only slight annoyance with these non-top titles (ie its not MW2 etc) - is they tend to drop their price quite quickly :(

not sure I can wait though ! (

On the subject of naval warfare sims. Is there anything out or under development that covers WWII surface warfare? I'd love to refight the great surface battles, such as Savo Island, Iron Bottom Sound and Surigao Strait.

I was soooooo looking forward to this ..............

Then I heard about UBI new DRM poop , you have to have a constant connection
to the net when playing this game
IF your connection drops/or too many dropped packets = game exits to main menu and you loose any progress :-(

It is like you are renting games and not buying them anymore

I have already preordered the collectors edition.
Silent hunter is one of the reasons I love pc gaming as I can never imagine playing this on console.
I know the new drm is a pain but if this is the measures that devs need to combat piracy then so be it.
Piracy is killing pc gaming and maybe ubi will drop the drm on this game after a year or so.

Silent Hunter is an excellent series of games..... I must admit I didn't put as much into Silent Hunter 4, as I didn't have the time for it...

Silent Hunter 5 might hurt my system a little to get the best out of it graphically..... Poor old PC is now over 3 years old, so my specs are a tad lower then recommended..

I got into Naval Sub Sims on the amiga, Silent Service II was excellent, and I agree.... These types of games just aren't playable on consoles... Sub sims etc are perfect for PC platforms as you really do need the extra control etc PC's give you....

A keyboard for these types of games are a must.. I remember Silent Service being released for NES, and it was a real mess. You couldn't control it correctly and you could only fire four torpedoes..!!
