When I was at the cinema last weekend, I saw an advert for the LG Optimus which is a 3D phone. The cinema that I went to offers films in 3D. You can buy 3D televisions and a 3D graphics card for computers. The higher pricing band for 3D products still makes it a privilege, but there will be a time fairly soon when 3D cinema / TV / computing / phones will become mainstream. 4:3 screens are virtually non-existent now, owing to the more popular widescreen format. This is a good enough reason for me to be wary, even concerned actually, that 2D will vanish in favour of 3D. What have the 1-eyed got going for them?

3D's over-rated, and to you 2D movies must seem mega realistic!

Filming / producing 3D content is expensive, there won't be a full shift for a long time...
 
My mum only has one good eye and I always forget because the other one is still there (she is almost blind in one eye, and its beyond help by perscription glasses). There was a movie out in 3D I wanted to watch and I asked if she wanted to come and felt so guilty when she reminded me of the problem. But she lol'd, all was good :p. Hugs to OP, there's always gonna be room for 2D, 3D gives me a headache.
 
My wife has monocular vision and today I asked her to look at a Nintendo 3DS in a shop we were in and tell me what she saw.
A load of blurry crap graphics was the verdict.

I like 3D when it is done well, but doubt I'll ever have a 3D television at home.
 
I have an Optimus 3D, you lose the effect if you view the screen with one eye :p

It's somewhat amusing but I can't see it taking off big time to be honest.
 
I went to see Avatar in 3D and thought it was quite good. Last Sunday i went to see Harry potter in 3D and by the end of the film i was thinking that i am fed up with 3D now and will probably see my next film in 2D.

I don't have a 3d tv as they were not out when i got my plasma but i did recently see a 3D 50" samsung on display that had a great 3D effect so that would be the 1 eyed get.:eek:
 
Sorry to be a harsh voice here, but you're disabled - society can accommodate, but not completely compensate for that. You can't expect technology to progress at a rate appropriate to the lowest common denominator.

As it is, a lot of people don't enjoy the 3D experiences they're offered, so I doubt you'll need to deal with a crippling discrimination in your lifetime.
 
a mate of mine has one eye, she cant see 3d films but through the 3d glasses it just makes it 2d (ie not blurred like without the glasses)
 
Eye;) don't think that 3D will become standard, at least not in it's current form, any time soon. It's a novelty that will probably stick around for a while before being mostly forgotten about. Personally I can't stand it though, so I hope I'm right at least!
 
I doubt it'll become mainstream, and if so someone will probably make some reverse 3D glasses anyway :p

I know your suffering to an extent mate, I have neuro problems with my left eye meaning it gives out or goes blurry pretty much whenever it damn well feels like it. Always go to 2D showings now.
 
Thanks everyone, especially Fozter with the comparison, and also for the comedy answers :p Pirate eye patch is a good 'un :-) In reality, my blind eye is just a glass eye and looks like my good one.

I didn't know that donning the 3D specs renders the view back to clear 2D, so that is good to know.

I can see into the depths of holograms no probs, so if 3D technology was to become like that, then ideal. Magic Eye I could never do (does that need 2 eyes?), and I always lose at pool (again depth problem) unless my opponent pots black too early :D
 
3D film tech is crap. Word has it that PotC4 was shown in twice as many 3D screens as 2D ones, but sold twice and many 2D tickets as 3D tickets. Go figure. 3D is very unlikely to take over in it's current form at the cinema. It's also unlikely to take off at home in that form, for the same reason, and there's no way that active shutter glass tech will take off when the glasses are the thick end of £100 a pair.
