Whilst sat here getting ready for work, I wondered how many other unfortunate people would also be doing the same, preparing for another dull weekend day job to help pay the bills.

Probably wouldn't be as bad if I didn't work both Saturday and Sunday :(

So.. anyone?

If I have to sometimes do - though I tend to work from home rather than go into the office. It's usually if I'm preparing for a financial/forecast/budget meeting, or establishing new policies or generally need to catch up with paper work & emails. I try and avoid it if I can - then again I still receive calls throughout the weekends... I need to get better managers :( Though to be fair I do tell 'em to ring me if they're stuck - and I'd rather they ring me than make the wrong decisions.

Every ******* weekends, and actually every ******* day i have off from my normal 9-5 job. my dad has a business and he expects me to go work there when i am not working in my full time job.

Since February i have had only one single 24 hours period where i was not working.

I will be working this bank holiday weekend, get off work at 12:30pm monday night/tuesday morning and have to get up 6 hours later at 6:40 on tuesday to catch a train to work on my proper job. I ******* hate him for it.

I decided to quit working weekends after 9 years of Hotel Management.

Although I had a lot of fun, my social life and relationships with women were declining at a fast pace.

It took some sweat and muscle but I am now my own boss and enjoy the weekends with my family and friends.

hopefully i will be working another 20+ hours a week ontop of my Full time job soon. :( including firday saturday nights and sundays :( but all in the aid of saving loads and leaving the country for 8months :D

(im working today btw)

You don't get it, can't..

1 - it's a culture thing, he's my dad.
2 - I feel sorry for him because he can't hire people as the place is in the sticks.

I still ******* hate him thou

It wouldn't be so bad if he is more reasonable (as a person), like this bank holiday coming, I know full well he expects me to work, but he doesn't tell me officially until yesterday. Now most people would've made plans by now to do things on their day off and if i did it would be rather late in the day wouldn't it?

Secondly, he is such a stubbon **** that he can't accept it even when he's wrong, 3 days ago he saw me playing GTA4. last night he saw it in the papers that it was on sale for £380 and he called me sister and complained to her how i spent £380 on a computer game. She told him that must include the console, but he wouldn't have any of it, his english is crap and he couldn't even read the Advert in the paper properly yet he sticks to his guns. No ******* common sense. He basically goes by his pricing from that stupid catalogue shop, absolute muppet.

To get time off he need someone to cover and i get my sister to do that, but she lives further away. It takes me an hour to get there, and takes her 2 hours. I' had last Saturday off (first day since February).

What do you do freefaller?

I'm on call one in three Saturday's. Not too bad really, not to mention the overtime is good.

I report to our general manager for the area - I work in secure logistics and cash processing, i.e. a 24hr operation. However I manage about 200 staff, where I have about 10 managers reporting to me - so it's quite easy to delegate :p However, I put the hours in and as said I sometimes show my face on the weekend for the reasons stated. IT helps keep a tab of what goes on. :)

1 - it's a culture thing, he's my dad.

I have a friend in York who I used to work with who is Indian.

His Father has a restaurant in the city center and if a 50hr week he has to do is not enough, his Father calls for him every Sat & Sun evening to work in the restaurant.

He was getting extremely miserable not being able to either chill out or go out with friends at the weekend and when I discussed it with him, he told me that it was also a cultural thing where the family all have to be there to help out.

He had to lie to his Father and tell him he had found another part-time job working in a bar just to get him off his back and enjoy a little more time he had at the weekend.
