Anyone Else Work Weekends?

I am telling you, if it wasn't the fact that i work in Worcester and i don't get home til 7 after my commute I would be expected to go work for him from the moment i get off the 9-5 job and work for him from 5-11.

I actually did that for a month, 14 hour days.

I ******* hate him.

You don't get it, can't..

1 - it's a culture thing, he's my dad.
2 - I feel sorry for him because he can't hire people as the place is in the sticks.

snip.

im sorry but if you hate it so much you will have to break the trend and do whats right for you, if that means upsetting you dad then so be it

i am doing sat overtime as i write this. Time and half and i get a free brekkie and alll i would be doing is lounging at home not doing much so i'm happy with it!

I don't hate the job as such, i hate him a lot more.

If he were a lot more reasonable, like the example above, don't be so stubborn and it'll be much better. Except he is not and not going to change at his age.

The only way i can quit is to get a job 200 miles away from his place and be physically no way of getting there commuting.

maybe its time to break away from him then and be your own man
, it sounds like a dictatorship

Oh no, that would be disrespectful.

Some days when its really bad i actually look forward to the day he kicks the bucket, that is how much i hate him. He brings no joy to my life at all, only misery.

There are a few convenience and materialistic advantage of having him around but on an emotional level i get more fun out of my Xbox.

Just when I do overtime such as an afternoon shift today. Oh well, lots of people there who I like so it makes it more fun.

I feel for you Ray, I hope things get better (though not from him kicking the bucket).

I think until our generation of cultural societies hit the age our Fathers do, many are unfortunately stuck in this rut.

And for Ray, its not soon enough by the looks of things.

Sorry dude :(

Worked full weekends for past 2 years whilst Uni. However, as of the past 4 weeks, I got a Sunday only contract! I also leave work in 3 weeks in preparation for my placement in Oxford, w00t! Oh, that reminds me, I've got to write up my notice :D

Raymond, doesn't sound too good man, feel free to drop me a line on msn if you want a chat :(

I've worked every weekend apart from the 2 i've had off on holiday for the last 18 months

In from 12.45pm - 10pm tonight but thankfully off tomorrow for a weeks holiday to do all my uni work.

If my shift falls on a weekend I work then, so I work half the weekends a year. I prefer it. Less traffic, nice easy drives to work usually without another car in sight.

Fewer people about at work so its totally relaxed.

Then I have weekdays to do my shopping, go into town etc. Gives me a lot of freetime and I never do any OT.

I work

Friday Night
Saturday Night
Sunday most of the day
Monday night

It sucks as i can only go out through the week :(

My beloved OH and I have our own shop (a Deli if you're interested) so one of us has to work on Saturday. At the moment we do not open on Sunday, but we have a Waitrose about to open nearby, so we are beginning to feel that we might have to. So much for a home life..................
