Your trays looks decent, had to tell without actually seeing them physically in place, especially on the inside parts of the teeth for adaption, but you must have mixed the impressions quite well. This is a vital part of any bleaching process, to keep the bleaching materials in place.
Not convince the blue light will do anything for you, some work by heating the gel, thus burny burny stuff works faster, that might aid the speed in each application.
Post the details of the light, just interested to see what has been ordered and what it claims it will do.
How much were they trays when ordered online?
How long did you leave the bleach in place for?
If you are taking before afters in future, do it with the guide aligned to your teeth, that way you will have an accurate recorded before after using the same guide, quite useful for comparison.
I can't stress enough: please ensure you are seen by a dental professional and deemed suitable to have tooth whitening.
Tooth whitening is the practice of dentistry. By law, dentistry must only be carried out by dental professionals who are registered with the General Dental Council.
Having tooth whitening done by someone who is not a dental professional/ registered with the GDC is illegal and should be reported.
Indeed, but in his case, specially him, he is doing the whitening, having his own trays made, and indeed sourcing his own bleaching, then illegally importing it into the UK himself.
I pondered if the lab who cast the trays are working in breach of regulations as they are making medical devices without authorisation from a qualified person. As I am unsure where he ordered them from, and under what guise they were ordered it is hard to say for sure.
Wanted to make one post on my experience with home whitening instead of having dribs and drabs over the thread.
I gave up smoking a few years ago in exchange for vaping. Recently I decided to take care of my oral and dental hygiene. After visiting the dentist and having some fillings carried out I asked him whether my teeth could be whitened and how much the cost was. He replied yes and the bill was around £300.
Whilst I had no inclination whether the price was reasonable at the time I decided to do some research and try out certain products.
I have tried the Crest strips posted in the other thread a year or so ago and unfortunately they did very little after buying 2 weeks worth supplies and whitening every day.
Upon further research it was mentioned that the active agent would be neutralized with saliva so the whitening effect wouldn't be as effective as a professional job.
This led me to having custom dental trays made from Ebay where they send you some putty for you to make a mould of your teeth and you send it back for them to make custom dental trays.
I then ordered some Opalescence 35% from Amazon USA. EU laws unfortunately require anything over 0.1% Hydrogen Peroxide can only be carried out by dentists so I was forced to take that route.
Any teeth whitening treatment containing between 0.1% – 6% hydrogen peroxide can only be sold by dental practitioners, or under their prescription. Over 18’s only. Plus a thorough clinical examination must be carried out first. http://www.theteethwhiteningschool.co.uk/blog/uk-teeth-whitening-law-facts/
Not knowing how much I would need I just bought a 3 pack. Each pack contains 4 syringes. Also since I was going to get stung by customs which I paid for in advance during checkout I took the gamble and bought extra just in case they gave good results.
In order to quantify any difference I bought a basic tooth shade guide of Ebay.
I started of at a shade 9-10
I finished at a shade of 2 (I only used 5 syringes to get this result. Amazing! Dazzling! Very Joey Essex lol). I decided that this was bright/white enough. Anymore then I would look like Ross from Friends.
Please bear in mind monitors and taking camera pictures may distort the colours. I did not add any extra artificial effects, ISO were the same, no exposure was added but due to the difference in lighting the F stops may have been different. Pictures were taken 5 days after whitening treatment so there is no dehydration on the teeth which produce fake whiter results.
However if you buy and compare it to the shade guide you will be able to accurately see the shade difference.
My Dental Trays
Shade Guide
I was able to use one syringe to do two treatments which I did every second day if my gums needed time to heal or my teeth were too sensitive.
Prior to receiving the Opalescence I rubbed vitamin E oil onto my gums, twice a day.
As long as you don't overfill the dental trays there should be minimal "spillage" onto the gums that cause chemical burn.
I did find that my gums went white when spillage happened and it did cause chemical burn but it healed after a day. My pain threshold is quite high so I was able to bear it but I did give time to heal until I started treatment again.
Common sense is just involved, if gums hurt then give it time to heal and using vitamin E which is an anti inflammatory does wonders.
My whitening treatment contained 35% carbamide peroxide which is around 14% hydrogen peroxide so if it causes excessive pain then reduce the treatment time. I could only bear 30 mins at the beginning but after the second syringe I was able to withstand an hour session. The longer the whitening agent stays on your teeth the more it will be able to break down the bonds of molecules that cause stain.
To combat the inevitable tooth sensitivity I used GC tooth moose which also remineralizes teeth and brushed my teeth with Biorepair plus toothpaste.
Things like Blue plasma lights are a placebo. They do nothing and research has proved it. You can buy a cheap one from Ebay for £3 for psychological assurance but trust me not worth wasting money on (I bought one and it did nothing).
Total Cost
£86.33
But I have 6 syringes left and plenty to retouch my teeth over the year or longer to maintain brightness/whiteness.
If you use one of these whitening kits and already have some cracked/bad/chipped teeth, I assume it could be pretty painful, is this right, in other words the bleach will seap into any crack or chips in your teeth and give you a lot of pain.?
Thought might try once with peroxide but worried about pain from any chipped teeth I have(which I do), I can just imagine the pain. Think you need to order peroxide kits from the US(I assume it's legal to import etc).
I've been using Polanight (22% Carbamide Peroxide which is equivalent to 7.3% Hydrogen Peroxide) that I ordered from the US.
The cheapie trays you get aren't great - they do fit but after a while they get loose so I occasionally warm and reform them to keep them tight. Might get some proper ones made.
Definitely works though! The first couple of applications hurt my teeth but then it stopped. Real improvement after using it intermittently for a couple of weeks.
Just read this whole thread. Two thoughts: I'm too scared of hurting my mouth by going diy, and secondly, why the hell did people keep replying to Dogoid lol.
Been using 44% Carbimide Peroxide for a couple of days with the plastic moldable trays, definately seeing results already, teeth were pretty badly stained. Impressive, only cost £5 for the whole kit from China also. No idea if it's damaging my teeth/gums though, small amout of pain.
save your turmeric and use anything abrasive like abrasive toothpaste, that's all its doing. on top of that you wont stain your mouth, clothes and everything else yellow.
