Afternoon all,

Me and the GF are flying out to Rome in April and booked the flights with Vueling as they were cheaper and the times were better.

I made the mistake of not checking this airline and a lot of people have negative things to say so I'm slightly worried.

Has any one flown with them? If so, how was it?

I've flown with them once, they were fine: just like any other budget airline really. Make sure you follow all the baggage rules etc and I doubt you'll have any problems.

I never understand why people care so much about what airline they fly with on short haul flights. I just fly with whatever's cheapest, sit back, put my headphones in and listen to music/watch a film.

When I go away with family we usually fly BA, and frequently I find the budget airlines are actually better. The last BA plane I flew on was very shabby and worn out inside, compared to the Easyjet one I took last month which was spotless and brand new.

Last time I flew with a carrier I had never heard of previously, they cancelled the return flight and caused all sorts of never again.

I used them to fly to Santiago in Northern Spain and ended up in Chile. Mental.

LOL you didn't happen to meet these two did you?

Came here to say this:

Vueling is owned by IAG, who also own BA and Iberia. You'll be fine, same as with any low cost airline.

But beaten to it. However i'd like to comment on this:

Both airlines (and most major UK/EU airlines with large fleets) are constantly taking deliveries of new planes but at the same time are going to have some much older ones puttering about as well - My point is its going to be pot luck, I bet somewhere out there there's someone who loved their trip on a spotless and brand new BA plane and not very impressed by the shabby and worn out Easyjet one.

I somewhat doubt it.

Easyjet has an average fleet age of just 6 years - the number of planes they operate that are more than 10 years old number in single figures.

By contrast by the BA fleet is on average twice as old at 12 years old and quite a large number of the planes they operate are now very old - the 747 fleet for example is circa 25 years old and most of the 777's are approaching 20 years old.

Every single Airbus A319 BA operates on its shorthaul network is older than any Easyjet A319.

Whichever way you spin it you are far more likely to be on an old BA plane than an old Easyjet one. Not that this has any bearing on important things like safety, obviously.

To be honest I care more about the interior of the plane than the airframe age. Providing it is being serviced correctly of course.

BA are currently refurbishing the entire short-haul fleet. I can't remember what plane I was on at the end of last year (something in the A320 family probably), but that had the new short-haul interior and I thought it looked pretty nice. Charcoal grey leather seats, mood lighting, etc.

Used them to fly to Barcelona last year. Personally I was expecting to crash in a horrific fireball. But the flight was very pleasant. The hostesses were damn fine. The seating was recaro. I had no complaints really. Other than none of the staff spoke English.
