Anyone for a pot of tea?

Here's one from a mate's LAN party I was at many years ago when I still lived in South Africa. This poor guy had the slowest PC of all of us, running Windows 98:

How odd - never noticed that before - my onboard nvidia gigabit adapter has the options all the way up to 9014, is there a similar setting in your switch as well - haven't dug about much in my gigabit router yet? Might have to set up a couple of RamDrives and have a play.

No settings in my router for it at all. I'm using the BeBox supplied from Be which is a crappy but stable Thompson Speedtouch 780wl. The router is only 10/100 so I bought the netgear 5 port gigabit switch and coupled my 2 machines to that. One port (going to the router) runs at 100 whilst the 2 computers get a gigabit link

brilliant - I have the same nvidia controller on both mobos - will give it a go - not that my HDDs will give me anything like that rate as they are - best get tweaking!

To be fair about the transfer rates I got, the file being copied was the first file on this hard drive just after a full defrag

Going on to the laptop also having a full defrag

I've since changed the stripe size to 64k which resulted in increased transfer speeds but higher seek time.
