Anyone got braces?

Had you investigated invisalign at all? The other half has had these for ~6 months now to correct her front teeth which she thinks are crooked. No one has noticed that she has them in at all.

I'm currently using them to correct a couple of minor gaps to the side, and none even knows they are in unless you tell them.

Very easy to look after as well just take them out to eat brush after eating and keep them in 22+ hours per day.

Why you would have proper braces i have no idea, i feel pretty sorry for people when i see them because it must be awful

i have had invisalign for a year, and its just like part of your daily routine after a while and the results have been great, i don't even wear them 22 hours a day, just when i can which usually ends up about 20 hours a day, even my orthodontist has been impressed with the results, and you can use them to whiten your teeth, i don't exactly feel like a new person but i feel a lot more confident about my teeth now.

Some people have had problems with them creating cavities because essentially your trapping sugar against your teeth which results in exponential decay, but i have been pretty strict in only drinking water with them in and brushing before putting them back and no problems, teeth have never felt healthier due all the extra brushing.

I tried drinking the odd thing with them in when i first got them and it just felt awful, but some people apparently drink coffee etc with them in, i don't think i could do it myself.

I have to have refinements now for 20 weeks which i didn't have to have to correct my bite (called distillation apparently?) and although i am skeptical about using them to move back teeth i don't feel like there such a burden on my life than i am desperate to get rid of them.. could have been done in another 10 weeks as there are only some movements on my bottom teeth left..

I had braces for about 2 years when i was 14, the only problems i had was the wire stabbing the inside of my cheek, only happened a couple of times because the wire wasnt cut short enough or came out of the molar plate casing thing. Also avoid toffee and wine gum type things. i was eating some wine gums and the casing they put on your molar came off. sticky things like that tend to pull on the braces and it feels horrible. Also on the day they get tightened make sure to eat soft food as my teeth were pretty sore after that.

I had braces in for a year or so when I was ~17 to sort out some /serious/ gaps. When they came off, my teeth were perfect and I was very pleased. I then kept a retainer in for another year or so, during which time they moved slightly, but were still OK. Once the retainer was off they spaced back out again within a few months. It was a bit soul crushing at first, but now I couldn't really care less!

I'm nearly 22. :p

It never really bothered me that much, but I reckon it's a worthwhile investment now.

Where do you buy replacement wax?

How much did they cost you if you dont mind me asking :) In a simlar position myself ^^.

I don't know how much the original poster paid.

I got mine on a groupon deal for £750 then cashback so worked out at £700 ish.

My normal dentist does not know how he does them at that price as she says the molds alone cost £600 alone. But I'm not complaining.

But normal pricing you are looking at a few thousand.

I had braces for two years, they where fine after I got used to them which took around a week or so, once you have had them for a while they soon start to feel normal. The thing which I found most annoying with them was when I went to go get them tightened, you come out afterwards with your mouth feeling all tight but the feeling only lasts a hour or so. When it came to eating + drinking I didn't change much tbh you still drink fizzy drinks just make sure that you brush properly, I even started eating toffee and chewing gum in my 2nd year of having them :o. When they come off it is a amazing feeling though it feels so strange running your tounge along your teeth! I am now wearing retainers every other night or so just to keep my teeth straight.

I've just had my brace's taken off. I had them from 17 to a month ago, so 20. I didn't mind them, I had them for 3 years as I have teeth missing and it made it difficult. I have a gap at the front of my teeth now, where I never had a tooth. Whenever they tightened them the gap got too big and then too small.

I never was really bothered by them. Never hurt when eating anything and when they tightened them.

The worst part was when they took them off and they sort of cut my teeth and cleaned them. That was horrific.

I never took any special care cleaning them. Just brush 2 - 3 times a day and rinse my mouth with water after eating. Had mouth wash when I remembered to get it :).

Got the retainers and the removable brace now with a fake tooth attached. My teeth are transformed. Can't wait when a year has passed and I get a tooth bridged to the others :)

It is definately, worth while.

I had braces for over 5 years, had an overbite of over 15mm. I had corrective jaw surgery so I know of all the pro's and con's to surgery. Surgery is hard work and frustrating. Braces you get used to, they become easy after a few weeks, you wont even remember they are there. If you want to know any more info on surgery just let me know!

I've got a similar level of overbite as yourself.

If you could give some more information on the surgery, I'd be much obliged. Haven't found that the braces are unnoticeable, there is a definite "pain" to chewing with foods. Well pain is maybe the wrong word, but it definitely dosen't feel natural. Chewing gum is a no no.

My ******* braces are still not fixed which is very annoying.

I'm mid 20s up, my bottom teeth go over my top teeth so a reverse underbite, very minor, but i dont like it. I would love to have it sorted :(, not sure if it's too late now tho? How much does it cost? I've always been quite scared tho to do anything about it as it would also require braces and surgery.

For anyone considering braces, there is a fantastic new system thats slowly making its way to the UK. Similar to conventional braces but the brackets are almost invisible. But the bonus is that most cases take only 6 months! So no metal braces and no long treatment times like with invisalign. Google 6 month smiles. Obviously this doesn't suit everybody, but most people who just have crooked/spaced teeth are a good candidate for it.
