Anyone had knee(s) operations?

Hi all,

Well I had my operation on the 24th of June a lot of waiting about i had to be at the hospital at 6:30am.

Lucky I was chosen right away there were 18 + people waiting for theatre
Had to put on the horrendous J-Cloth gown.

It was about 1pm when i went in the staff were nice, had to have the fluid (needle) in my hand but then the nurse did it wrong 1st time so had to be stabbed in another area of my hand. Then had the gas the last thing i remember was the lady putting the mask on me. And then another lady waking me up, She gave me morphine and paracetemol ... but I then came out with a major rash with the morphine (which i never had before when I had to use morphine with my dislocation at christmas) So then they had to ask the docs which tabs i could use (& which worked) I’m still on Tramadol & diclofenac.

1) Tendon over the knee has been moved to the centre (as mine was to the left of the shin which didn’t lock my knee in place that well.

2) My shin at the top near my knee has been cut away so my knee has been moved down to slot into its grove.

3) The hamstring that goes down the side to the right (some) has been cut to lasso my knee.

So now i hope that my knee no longer dislocates \o/

I can't walk up stairs yet I’ve been on crutches for the past 3 weeks and still another 3 to go! Then physio to get my leg going! And then I have to walk on 2 legs again!

good luck with your recovery. remember the physios will cause you pain but it will be worth it in the end. keep focused on your recovery, dont let things slip

Yeah thats the hard part i think , its a pain as if i could drive then i can easy get to physio each time. I have to ask my mother to take me there and back its a mission. Im expexting more pain than before as long as i can kneel again and swim and go to the gym ill be over the moon

I have chronic Patella Tendonitis/osis in BOTH my knees from playing high level volleyball and badminton all throughout university.

I have had the left one operated on but it still isn't 100% - never will be unless some new treament comes out to sort it.

I have to wear patellar supports for volleyball now and it takes its toll on the knees - i perhaps shouldn't be playing but there's no way i'd want to give it up.

Update!

Well ive been able to drive since friday last week \o/ yay

i'm still not 100% and can't bend my leg totally stretched out like it should
when i do bend it its like an odd force against my kneecap where i can't bend it further.

Geez a lot of ops for knees then :D

Goto the nhs gym ever mon - tues -thurs- fri & still the physio's are not happy that i cant fully rise my leg straight. Keeps banging on about their are people 4 weeks post op that can do it. But he said that 10% take a bit longer and i fall into that catogory. BUT i know its not an excuse took em over a month and half to get me a physio slot post op

Hi all,

Well my first day back at work yesturday! 1pm till 6pm then had to go to college 7pm-9pm was a long day for me! I've been moved from Bakery which sucks but iunnderstand why (health and safety risk if i slip etc) And now working on Grocery ..again.. Found it arkward towards the end of the shift my leg killed after 3 hours work and still had 2 hours left (15min break) in between that. I think its as i've not really been using mt legs to the extent i was but now i am. Guess ill have to get used to it.

hm.. i should get checked.. i twisted my knee very hard.. and its been over 3 months now still hurts like hell from time to time.. i mean like every day but not for long periods.. couldn't walk properly for over a month.. now been getting back to bmx for the last 4 weeks and i can ride fairly easy do around ~50miles a week.. hmm.. i guess im ok then.. well i bet its annoying :) good luck getting it sorted tho!

Just some across this! It's sad to hear the stories that not all the knees are as they should be. Luckily mine seems to be as good as ever and I'm playing fottball a couple of times a week on it with no pain swelling or other aggrevations.

MP4 keep going - it took me about a year to get fully back to how it was but I had maga intensive physio after my op and went to knee club which sounds funny but was the best thing for it!

I have the same from years of Tae Kwon Do and a little kickboxing. I use the Mueller knee strap which is good. Hoping lifting weights will strengthen my knee back up. No op for me yet though! (grrr they did mri and gave me tramadol but the specialist basically said "not much we can do" and said to contact my gp if it gets worst!)

My knee has improved somewhat with physio and starting up gym again but I asked to see the specialist again through my GP and had a further MRI scan and it's looking like I have exactly the same problem except it's worse this time and only solution is another surgery. I just said no and said I'd like to see if I can get better results from more physio, unfortunately I'm not really feeling confident enough to let them have another poke after the first one.

At the moment pain in the gym is manageable with support (I wear an elastic pullover thing with wrap around type on top) and I can get away without wearing any if I'm walking around for around an hour or so, funnily enough it hurts more to stand around than move. With me spending more and more time in the gym lately I'm just going to see how it goes in the next few months and if it gets better as I lose more weight and strengthen the muscles around the knee too.

Hi all,

Well 6 weeks down the line im still at work 20hrs a week atm 5hours Wed - Sat Shall be moving to 39hrs soon which im not looking forward too as i struggle to do 5 hours a day not alone 8.

Been through a lot the past month with family issues and not had the time to goto the hospital gym or physio :( which has buggerd up my knee somewhat (going to physio at 2pm today) & i know i'm meant to do exersize at home but motivation is very much lacking! How do you guys do it!? I feel like a pleb when doing the exersize too!

I used to do my nut at the gf because she didn't keep up with her physio.

Think of it as giving you the ability to walk properly later in life. Do you really need extra motivation?!

The annoying thing about the (Hospital)Physio/Gym is parking Costs me a £3.20
(1 hour) £16 a week just to park my car! Having just gone back to work (not full time) money is an issue now

Yes i need extra - someone to push me like a physio that can do home visits or something .. atm not allowed to a social gym as running machines / row machines will do more damage than good (so they say....)

Will ask Physio today IF i goto a social gym what can i use etc insted of being on Hospital open times for the gym i can go when i want. & then bring the GF with me for motivation + Go swimming after

as i get home from work 8:30 - have dinner by 10pm and im off to bed :/
