i know we don't have medical threads so i wont go into details other than my right foot has been inflated and swollen for 8 weeks now. MRI on Friday, I'm 6'3 and 17stone of bulk... not looking fwd to being in one of those capsules !

out of interest do they show broken bones as well?

Yeah I have, I worked in an MRI suite. I will dig out a photo of me in one in a minute. Its back when I was a bit heavier than I am now (probably around 19 stone) so it is taking great compassion for me to inflict this upon the world

ha ha, be cool to see the photo... so broken bones does it show? as i think i have a broken bone, but not had an xray

I have had a head MRI, I'm 6 3 and it was pretty claustrophobic and noisy, they pipe through music for you but my head was in a massive clamp, I don't know for a leg if just you lower half will go in but I went in head first and my shoulders rubbed up the inside of the doughnut, felt like being in a coffin :(

Doh. The picture is actually me in a PET CT monstrosity, which had an even smaller bore.

Anyway - you will be fine, I have been in several and measured at the time 6ft 3, 19stone and never had any problems. You will also be laying leg first in the machine so won't even go properly inside. (minor assumption but this is 99% true)

Yes. Noisy and you have to be very still! I didn't enjoy it much. I hope they shown broken bones as I had one to look at my scaphoid (bone in your wrist) to see how it was healing

I've had a head one but that's all, I'm similar height/weight to you and while the head cage thing was very snug I had plenty of room around me.

I'm not sure that they'd show broken bones particularly well, but I'm only going off the scans I had, maybe a different scanning sequence would display bone density better.

Also make sure you are fairly comfy before they start - don't try and man up and then end up moving around after its started.

I'm taller than you and I was fine, as it's open both ends my head was near the opening. The noise can be quite unsettling to begin with, but the time passes pretty fast!

Since I cannae find the picture I wanted here is proof I fit into one.

depending on the scanner, they may just put your foot in,

i had my neck scanned a couple of months ago so went in head first up to my waste, managed to doze off to sleep for a bit during one of the longer stages.

I fell asleep during both of mine, I think, it's so hard to keep track of time during a 40 minute scan, I really tried my best not to the second time but you just end up getting hypnotised by the noise
