Anyone have a Hot Tub?

Does anyone's missus actually bother to show the slightest interest in maintaining one of these things?

I can imagine it would be something blokes get lumbered with maintaining while their wives host cocktail parties with all their mates.

Mine does, the deal was that if she promises to look after it, she can get one (a bit like a pet).
She did the same with the lay-z spa so she's pretty used to it.

It’s a pain cooling the hot tub down on days like this. It’s been on 37.5C due to a few chilly days, but I’ve set it to 35.5C this morning. Doubt it will cool now it’s in the sun. Should have changed it last night!

Funny how life changes. All my time used to be in PC gaming and hardware. These days I’m talking about hot tubs and garden projects.

So our hot tub is about 5 months old and it's got a leak somewhere. Hot tub assist came out (they do the warranty/aftercare) and stabbed the foam with a screw driver in a few spots and poked around to see if he could see some moisture. He couldn't, be he did notice that the front drain port was dripping so changed the o-ring on that and said it was likely the cause of the leak.

A few days latter the leak is still there, water can be seen around the entire perimeter of the hot tub so it's not isolated to a specific area. It's a slow leak that is collecting in the base of the hot tub and then coming out all the sides in very small amounts. I called them again and they asked that I put in a bit of tape to monitor the amount of water loss. The next step they said is more invasive, they will empty the water and pull the hot tub away from the fence and remove the foam. The foam is basically baked in, so you have to cut it out to see the pipes. They said they would then do a foam repair.

I don't think I'm going wait 2 weeks because a) I think this may be part of the problem with why the Freshwater salt system is constantly erroring, despite the guy saying it could be the foam build up and b) I don't see how waiting 2 weeks will make things any different.

I'm a bit gutting that after 5 months the hot tub has to have the foam chopped out to find a leak.

This is the puddle that has been present for weeks now. It's similar in the other corners, this one is the worst though.

The reason I think this may be part of why the salt system is erroring is because yesterday the error resolved itself for pretty much the entire day and this puddle started to clear. Then in the evening I come out and it's got the error and the puddle is back. This is without using it.

You must be getting on now :)

I wouldn't have one - The lad I worked for part time had one and asked me to empty it and clean it out -good job I had gloves and wellies.
There was all this sticky white stuff on bottom when I drained it -looked like body fluids - he was single and had numerous girlfriends.
This Tub was in his gym so it was always in the warm and if it wasn't warm he lit the wood burner or turned the heating up. :D

Oh how annoying! I always wondered how easy these things would be to fix. No, I don’t see how waiting will help. It does probably explain the errors you were mentioning though. Hopefully it gets fixed soon!

Haha, yes, in my 30s now. Time flies!

It’s ok if you maintain it well, but I can imagine it being a pain to look after in the winter. It is bliss in there though, I always assumed they were rubbish.

Any tips for draining the water from the hot tub? We have a drain port but it's lower than the house drain so not sure it will work. I was thinking of getting a sump pump. How do you then remove the last few inches?

I have this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PFHY4WR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_M1sjFbC81DKHZ

I also bought some wide piping for it. If I waited for the drain I’m sure it would have taken ages.

I used a bucket for the final bit and a giant car sponge to wipe the tub down.

This is one of the reasons I went with Vita Spa. They don't use foam sprayed around the shell so in theory all the components in the tub are easy accessible for maintenance or replacement. They advertise that the spas can be rebuilt in situ as access is so easy, could be marketing bull though.

On a side note we've been told there's a delay on Maax spas production (Vita is part of the Maax family) due to the Covid shutdown and been given a further £500 off as good will while we wait. Not expected until Sept or Oct now though.

What do they use instead of foam? I have no idea what is used on ours. Foam I assume.

Gave them a call, booked in for 6th August.

Had hot tub assist to look at the leak today, as hard as he tried he couldn't find the source. It's pretty disheartening watching your expensive hot tub have the interior hacked at to investigate the leak. He said it would need to be transported back to the warehouse where they can get it up on a ramp to do further investigation. I get the impression this will be a lengthy process, not to mention one that I shouldn't have to accept after 5 months of ownership. Taking the hot tub out of the garden on a lorry and to a warehouse and back again isn't something I'm OK with.

I've spoken to Hot Spring world and asked them for a new hob tub, no way it's acceptable to have hot tub go through this kind of work so soon. They want to give me a replacement, but need to check with management. Lets see.

No, that's not acceptable at all. Especially within 5 months.

I wouldn't be happy with that either. Hopefully the customer service will sort you out a new tub.

Ask for an upgrade.

Forgot to chlorine ours for a few days, pale green water greeted me today. It cleared up after an hour of messing about though. Could have been much worse.
