Anyone have any interesting OCD?

I have only witnessed true OCD with a handful of different people. The most noteworthy of which is a guy who comes into work, and after parking up his car spends ten minutes checking it over to ensure it's locked. We watch him most days as we have a perfect view of where he typically parks from our office. He runs his fingers across the seals of all the windows and quadruple checks that he has locked it. Sometimes he'll walk away from his car, not feel confident that he's done it correctly, and start the process from the beginning. The whole thing is surreal to watch.

I do believe the term OCD is thrown around quite freely nowadays, almost as if everyone has got it. A bit like IBS. The worst is when you hear someone say "yeah, I'm lyk, sooo OCD about that". No. Just shut up.

There's a nurse at my hospital who does exactly the same thing but will also reverse in and out several times. She will look at it from all four sides from about 10 yards and repeat & rinse. I reckon it's at least 15 minutes before she will leave it but amazingly once she walks away she never turns around.

I've got the plug issue, everything has to be switched off at the wall and if we're away then everything is unplugged. I also tend to check I've locked my front door at least twice every morning and I wiggle kid handle three times to do this.

I used to watch a guy doing a similar thing when I was in college. He'd lift the door handles so hard that the car would rock. He'd place both hands on windows and try and drag them down. He would also walk away and return once or twice. I never noticed if he had a routine in mind when he did it but it was very strange behaviour.

I used to know someone with servere ocd, if he made a hot drink, he had to stir it a certain amount of times, he would check the house security, windows, doors and everything else for about 30 minutes before going out, or going to bed. He washed his hands every 10 mins or so etc etc.

He ended up seeking help as it ended up stopping him work. He was on tv about it once too! He's now moved to America, last time I spoke to him (a good few years now) no he had gotten over quite a lot of it!

My gf has to have a round number in her bank, otherwise she will transfer the odd pence out. Wouldn't class it as odc though.

My mate has to have everything level, if he goes out his room and you moved something he would notice right away. At work if we was dropping pallets somewhere and they were not all level with each other he would pull them all back out and start again lol.

No.

The only slightly odd thing I do is double/triple check doors/fridges/ovens/the gas after cooking (as in the past I used to get easily distracted & now over-compensate)

Personally I can't stand having plates and cutlery etc that don't match, if a new set of plates or whatever comes in the old set gets binned..... Also when arranging cupboards, all cups must be upside down with the handle facing towards the door, can't have a glass on the plates side etc...

Funnily went to a friends house a few years ago, for a few days, when I came to make myself a cup of tea the following morning I opened the cupboard to see what in my head is a definition of hell.......... at least 100 different types of cups, plates, bowls etc none of which matched in anyway shape or form.... just thrown in, I ended up arranging the lot properly and got so frustrated I couldn't bin the freakin lot! :S

I'm a freak!

Yup, my Dad does this too! Takes him ages to find a parking place that's okay for him. Then when he's parked-up he'll spend ages checking the petrol cap is closed and the doors are closed  If I'm going to help with his food shopping I often just go ahead and start shopping because I hate standing there waiting.

I kinda get the plug issue if something is plugged in and is not being used (like a TV overnight). But he once stayed at my house and switched the chest freezer off when I was at work. I didn't notice until the following day  Was just before Christmas too, so there was a lot of food in there!

EDIT: I'm the op's GF...

OCD is a horrible illness that I don't think a lot of people really understand until they've witnessed or experienced it themselves. Depending on the severity it can ruin your life as everything you do is dominated by your obsession or compulsion. I used to think I had mild OCD because things had to be a certain way but the repercussions of it not didnt really go beyond annoyance. For OCD sufferers it is much deeper, the repercussions are much greater that can lead to anxiety and depression.

I feel for people with OCD and hope they have people round them that can guide them towards professional help.

Had a guy in on Friday who was obsessed with not touching toilets or toilet door handles. He said it was unclean but he was filthy dirty and would not wash his hands after a pee. The worst part was that a lump of poo rolled out of this trouser leg as he walked down the corridor.

^Lol

I salute every mag pie i see. Don't this falls in this spectrum. Although I think the birds would think to differ. Haha

I don't think OCD being described as "intresting" sits right. It's a mental illness and fairly debilitating in some cases, resulting in at least annoyance.

The recent trend for it to be cool to be slightly different and autistic bought on by TV characters in The Big Bang Theory, House, Community etc is largely to blame for this. The reality is autists are generally insufferable in a lot of instances and its really quite sad to have to deal with.

Absolutely true and well put. Threads like this do annoy me but I have to take it with a pinch of salt. In reality it's a real struggle and upsetting to deal with at times.
