Anyone have issues with XFX 7900XTX?

Hi All,
I've recently started having issues with my 7900xtx on start up.
It only shows half a display like its outputing the wrong resolution(Upside down as well) then decides to freeze on first start up.
I have to do a hard restart then works perfect. Its like it doesn't like the cold mornings.
I've tried all the usual DDU, new cables etc. Starting to think there's maybe a bad capacitor or something on the board.
Just wondered if anyone else had same experience with the XFX cards.

Thanks

Its a 750w corsair platinum
5800x3d
32gb ram
Asus prime X570

Welcome to the forum.

Might be worth while expanding on description of PSU. Platinum is the 80 Plus certification for PSU which a number of Corsair 750W models could have. See if you can state a model/series of PSU.

I've had a XFX 7900XTX for about 2 years, no issues, do at times run it with max'd powerlimit.

I also have a wall plug meter to see total PC power usage and from what I've seen a 750W would be ample for XTX, but age and perhaps a fault with PSU could make system play up.

If you don't have access to another PSU to try, might be worthwhile getting a wall plug meter. IMO handy bit of kit to see power usage and not a big outlay.

At what point does it do it?
Before windows loads or after it?
Ie if you booted into the bios straight away
Would it still do it?

Could even be a windows issue
I spent months with my boot screen only filling
Half the screen (left half)
And was bright pink instead of blue
Was windows 11 insider build
Turned out to be a windows issue which they have
Finally fixed
It's surprising sometimes what looks like hardware fault
May actually be software related

I've been having issues booting from cold every morning (had no heating in my house for 3 weeks while waiting for everything to be fixed) and thinking the extreme difference in temps, may have meant something on my motherboard has expanded or contracted, can't say for sure though, as it works fine once it actually boots up :D

Hopefully it's just a case of something like that, and not a bigger issue.

Hi Mate,
Sounds very similar to my issue! Left side would only show and would be slightly pink colour also.
I'm on windows 10 atm but might have to go for the 11 upgrade shortly.

It shows the bios screen then windows loading screen fine.
Then when the login screen comes up its all messed up haha.

Thanks for all the input everyone, great info.
Think I might try installing windows 11 and start fresh.
I also think I might have to upgrade my PSU to a 850w+

If it still does it
After a clean windows 11 install (not an in place upgrade)
Then yeah may need to consider a hardware issue
Could also try boot a live usb
Something like Ubuntu or other Linux
Or a windows RE
If those boot up fine then likely a windows/software issue

My normal approach is try to rule out a software issue
Before resorting to spending money on hardware

That's a great shout.

I've just discovered if unplug the dp cable and plug it back in it sometimes resolves the issue.
I have heard a lot of mixed reviews about windows 11 but will probably be forced to do so eventually.

I find 11 fine
I test the latest insider previews
Been quite a while since I had any major issues with it

Though I have multiple hard drives with Windows on them
That way any issues I can boot to another drive
And see if it's replicated or not
Double checking stuff that way is just how
I have always done things

I'm wondering if your PSU is is causing the problem it's slightly under the recommended 850w for you GPU but shouldnt be drawing that power on start up.
I had issues with my 6600XT booting up, the screen would go black as soon it would load the graphics driver during boot. The fix/work around for this (many people had the same issue) was upgrading the PSU to a 850 watt unit that had a single 12v rail. I'm convinced there's a brief power spike during boot process which can cause systems with weaker PSU's to fall over.

Morning all,

Think I maybe on to something. Just ran DDU and left the drivers off.
Computer starts fine every time now, but as soon as I install the drivers for the Gpu it glitches often on start ups now.
Tried the latest Amd adrenaline drivers/software but still continues to glitch.
Just let windows do its thing and it all seem to be working fine without installing the Amd drivers.

What's your performance like without the drivers though, whilst it might be 'working' I can't imagine this is optimal.

Is windows just using default display driver ?
Or it it installing the amd driver in the background
Though without all the amd software?

Definitely won't be optimal with default driver
The amd driver should perform much better but without
The software you won't have a lot of
Options available to you

Try an older version of adrenaline drivers/software
See what happens

Mite be worth a fresh reinstall of windows .

Just seen this thread for the first time and I have an XFX 7900xtx for 2 years now, I would do a fresh windows reinstall after your latest findings. My first thought was a PSU problem, especially as the OP is only using a 750 watt PSU and minimum recommended PSU is 800 watts for a 7900xtx.

Also if you get it working with the adrenaline drivers, try under volting the cards. I find mine performs better, using the under volt setting in adrenaline.

surely if it was a psu issue which im assuming you mean transient spikes the entire system would shut down wouldnt it? not justthe gpu ******** the bed
