Anyone into RC?

What's the deal with brushless dc, do you need special batteries and speed controllers or can you use them with the old 7.2V kit?

I see this stuff on eBay from time to time and it all seems to be high voltage with weird massive chargers.

Edit: watching the video that little car can take a bit of a beating. My old Tamiya Hornet with a 17-turn-double wet magnet motor would have been in pieces after about 3 of those jumps :D

Yep, definately into R/C :) I've got about 16 cars at the mo including an E-Revo, E-Maxx, a whole load of '80's Tamiya stuff and an original Sand Scorcher :D

Loving the vid btw, it's amazing how much abuse the Revo will take lol

You can still use the old 7.2v NiCd, NiMH or the newer LiPo stuff.

I run brushless on 4.8v in my 1/12th scale pan cars.

I must have nearly £10k (original value, not its current used value) worth of R/C kit ranging from late 80's to 2009 kit.

Owned a MT2 about a year ago, never really got into it and sold it to my friend, gonna buy a Savage this year i think :D Always did love them.

mostly planes and helicopters. Just finished a balsa piper cub, have loads of scratchbuilt foam planes, trex 450 and 500 helis, blade msr too.

RC10gt and t-maxx trucks but don't get much use

couple of power boats and a sail boat

I have two nitros at home a 1/10 Schumacher XT-R and a 1/8 Savage X.

Unfortunately the XT-R has dodgy diff (it goes through them constantly), but then it does do around 60mph when properly running :D and the Savage X is still in pieces after hitting a curb at full speed a year or so ago. :( I've either not had the time or the money to repair/use them recently. :(

I guess I also have a "powerboat" made from scratch, although it has a top speed of about 4 mph... Been meaning to make a new one with a few design improvements and sticking a nitro engine in instead of an underpowered electric motor!

What's the hellfire like? I was tempted to buy that over the Savage X but found it a bit too similar to my XT-R. Apparently its pretty damn solid, unlike a lot of others I shall not mention... :p

Keep looking at Schumacher Rascals and thinking they could be some good cheap RC fun for someone like me who isnt an enthusiast, but wouldnt mind blasting about of a weekend.

Anyone got one?

Discontinued parts now from my sources so have to be a bit more careful than I used to be.

But with a few hop ups DAMN that thing took some abuse..

Youtube cut the audio source from this one
