Anyone loaded Windows 7 on a Mac?

Its arse rapingly annoying isnt it! What browser you using bud?

I tried both Safari and Firefox. Just started the download in a VMWare installation of XP. Bit of a faff but it's working.

Went for the 64bit version for my Unibody MacBook, will report back tomorrow.

I used this link for the 64 bit and it worked fine and fast. Even now I just started downloading in Safari on OS X and both are maxing out my connection (about 1.6 MB a sec).

By the way you will probably also have a problem with the audio drivers and will need to get them from the Realtek site.

Mine is a BootCamp install, but in VMware you can also launch the BC partition as a VM so I will do that later (someone mentioned you have to tell it is in Server 2008 mode).

I updated my Vista 64 bootcamp install on my mid 2008 Imac, worked perfect.

Is it safe to say I actually quite like Windows 7? :p

Still no OSX but Microsoft seemed to have removed most of the elements I found so annoying in Vista.

I had Win7 installed on my Late 2008 MBP. The bootcamp wizard wouldn't continue because it didn't detect a Windows Xp or Vista installation disc. So I've used the Bootcamp wizard to create a Windows partition. Then booted from the Windows 7 installation Disc (holding down the Option key at boot and selecting the DVD). I had to select the Windows partition, and had to reformat that partition for reasons unknown. In this stage, be 1000% sure that you select the correct partition.

After the installation you can select the OS you want to boot by holding down the Option key. The driver installation of the MBP drivers didn't work out so well, as the installer was showing error messages. Even when using a modified bootcamp.msi file. It finally worked because I've installed each driver manually. Some drivers, like the iSight camera didn't work. They where installed, but the system couldn't find the drivers. So I fixed that by installing a trial version of WinRAR. Extracting the driver packages, and then installing the drivers by pointing to the extracted folder in Device Manager.

Runs fine now :)

How is this an issue? Aero is brilliant.

I wouldnt go so far as brilliant lol :p I'll not pass judgement on Win7 until ive given it a few more hours use..... It cant be any worse than Vista, which is a complete pig.... but i'm not expecting it to blow away OSX either :)

Thanks for the links, I'm looking forward to giving it a try, infact I just had to remove my bootcamp partition as it was far too small, I should have known that 40GB wouldn't be enough, I need to let it eat a good 80GB I think. So this is a good reason to try loading Windows 7 64bit sraight on there.

Do you enter your Vista serial key? Or were you meant to sign up for some beta-testing key?

10 minute installation time (virtual) is pretty good and it looks pretty nice too.

Mine is loaded fine in a 20GB BC partition. (have had to set the Pagefile manually though, Windows was setting something silly like 4Gb even though I already have 4GB physical RAM).

Key from the beta website. You can get them instantly this week (I think you have 3 days grace to activate it anyway).

Doesn't this beta expire in August?

For those looking to try it out, beware.. I don't believe there's a downgrade path from 7 to Vista (so you're looking at a reformat come August)

Just a heads up (I hear it's a stable beta).

Yeah but surely everyone in this thread is using it in VM or as a bootcamp partition, so hardly the end of the world when the Beta ends (Aug 01 IIRC).

I assume most people in this thread use Windows minimally or for certain task only (else why bother owning a Mac :) )

I spend about equal amounts of time booted into Windows on my MacBook as I do OS X, and Windows 7 (64-bit) runs beautifully on it. If I had a Vista license spare I'd probably use that, but the Win 7 Beta has replaced XP for me.

I been wanting to try this but cant seem to download it on my mac it get stuck at a page with a spinning dotted circle I cant get any further how can i download it?

I run Vista 64 off my late 2008 Macbook Pro no problem. I used the OSX install cd to install all the drivers I have used. I haven't had any issues yet, then again to be fair I have only done a bit of gaming under windows, I haven't really used it all that much, still if anything was going to cause problems I would have thought playing Surpeme Commander for 4 or 5 hours would.

Official or not, it works just fine and everything has a driver preasent a correct under Vista, the only thing that doesn't quite work perfectly is the trackpad, can't right click at all, but I just used a mouse, which worked fine.

I can only guess that the install disks supplied with the new unibody MBP's feature the 64bit drivers as the Mac Pro's do.

May be too slow but here's a link to the driver you need to enable right click i think, 2 finger right click also. It doesn't come up in the software update if you are running 64bit windows for some reason.

EDIT - I have a vista 64bit partition on my new unibody and can't be fussed destroying that and loading windows 7 so i was wondering about putting 7 on my old 17" 2.33GHz beast. What version would be most appropriate? The 32bit version or the 64bit version, i know that the 2.33 chip is 64bit but the chipset is 32bit, just wondering.

Probably have to go for the 32bit version.

Is that update you linked to newer than the 2.1 Bootcamp update for Vista? I installed 2.1 and my multitouch works fine in Windows 7.

On your other question you have no choice, you need the 32bit one as your chipset is only 32bit. To be honest it is not very different from Vista, in terms of GUI etc. Performance is better but the rest is just very minor cosmetic changes, not really worth the hassle of loading to look at, unless you are going to use it.

The 2.33 has an XP install which isn't important so wouldn't mind loading 7 up on it to have a gander.

Downloading both versions now.

5 hours it's going to take haha, not as fast as you RP.! :p

got my mac mini yesterday, proceeded to install osx tiger.. couple hours later its now running windows 7

couldnt get on with the OS at all so im sticking to windows.

love the mini, its deadly silent which is what i wanted and it seems to be running windows fine on the native drivers only thing i dont have is sound which is strange since everything else works.

Honestly mate, stick with how to get to grips with OS X it really is far better than Windows, I think sometimes Apple have made things a little too straight forward as from coming from using a Windows machine pretty much all my life, it was a joy for certain tasks such as installing applications only consisted of dragging the icon into the applications folder.

If you have the time, even watch youtube tutorials as to how to get around the OS, it really is pretty simple.

There is a particular driver that you have to use to get the sound working in windows 7 and I will try to get the link for you later as heading off to uni now.
