Anyone modded a 24 port POE switch to reduce noise?

Noctua NF A4x20 fans should work, not a cheap mod just for fans though, ~£13 each.

PoE injectors for 3 devices would be about the same if you have a quiet non-PoE switch to use with them

Update Thanks for the input everyone :)

I have swapped the pins over and tested both 120mm...They spin fine and move a far bit of air completely silent.

This is my proposed config for the top :D

I'll stretch some nylon stockings over the side holes I think as well.

Another one of your troll threads?

While I wouldn't go as far as trolling, it does seem very odd to butcher a switch in this way rather than just buy some replacement fans.
It now looks ugly, takes up more rack units than it did, and will have no resale value

Also fairly sure your fans are pointing the wrong way.

It literally looks the same in the cab as it did before...

New fans where going to £50 plus ....I had two 120mm fans around I forgot I had....they are configured to draw hot air out the case....

I moved the switched to the top of the rack...where the cab air vents are.

Here is is in situ after the mod. No extra space taken up in the cab and the same aesthetics as before.

I have no plans to sell it and will run it until it fails...so I don’t know what all the fuss is about tbh...Only thing is I now have a silent switch and it cost me nothing...

I will be returning the silent switch I bought back to amazon...why buy more things if what you have can be modded...That’s got to be better for the environment.:)

I find the latter comments a tad confusing tbh...what not to like? Free silent switch mod...

Out of interest, have you considered better ventilation for the racks? I'm just thinking you're switch is just expelling hot air into the area around it.

Edit: I agree its the best way to keep it cool by having the fans drawing air out.

There is a vent in the top of the rack...now I have moved the rack to the top and installed 2 x 120mm fans sucking heat out of the case I have already seen a drop in temps....

have no idea why @Armageus thinks my fans are wrong...maybe he can clarify...:)

Added my filters and fan grids to protect the inside electrics

Temps are a non issue now neither is noise...the fan filters and guards were £ 2.98 each :)

All in All it has been a very successful mod...it’s not the most sexiest of mods I have done...but in situ in the rack its fine and no one would notice other than how quiet my study is....working from home now it had to be done...

Inspired me to do mine, the rack in our utility howls thanks to the switch and it drives my wife mad.
Like you I don’t care for resale, as like yours, my switch is a repurposed corporate item. The POE draw is only 4 aps so I’ll look at slowing the fans down first and then butchering it second :p
