Anyone not like being overtaken?

Like most here, I don't mind being overtaken. Years ago I might have reacted differently, when I was a more hot-headed teenager, but these days I don't bother. After all, sometimes I need to overtake, and I really hope that I don't leave a trail of annoyed drivers behind me just because I'm driving faster.

I don't like being overtaken when there is no point and it is bordering on dangerous. Overtaking, pulling back in close and then turning off, or having to stop at lights or a junction does annoy me. The difference now is that I won't react to it any longer, other than some cursing inside the car. It just isn't worth anything else. Sure, I could speed off after them and retake the position, but what is it really going to achieve? After all, most of the time I am just going from A to B.

If the other driver is being a pratt and driving dangerously, then he or she is more likely than most to be involved in an accident sooner rather than later. And I don't particularly want to be a part of it.

Comes with getting older I think.

oh god dont say that, im 21 and thats how ive always been! (making me feel old)
im one of those 'boring' people in the thread that stick to the speed limit, have been since i passed my test.

i dont mind being overtaken on dual carriageways etc, but otherwise it really winds me up, as 99% of the time i end up pulling up behind them and a junction etc. so i normally just clap half heartedly as i pull up behind them.

most of them that drive like idiots and overtake needlessly/dangerously are prob better off infront of me anyway.

Never experienced angry people whilst being a passenger. My mate drives fast anything up to 100 on b roads but won't overtake badly. Have a lot of people indicate and slow to let you past. I feel safe with him.

Another guy i know had us on the wrong side of the road at 120 going to overtake 3 cars when the back two pulled out,so heavy on the brakes.......then stayed on the wrong side of the road and kept going past them. That was scary and not very nice.

Personally it's not about the speed, some people brake sooooooooooo much for corners that you can take with no brakes. It's just easier driving with no one infront.

I've been flashed a couple of times for overtaking on single lane roads. There's a certain bit down near me where a diagonal striped area is in the centre of the road (making it pretty much 3 lanes), People tend to get angry if I boot it past them going through there... obviously fully certain nothing will be coming the other way to turn down roads on either side, there is very good visibility there.

Drivers who exceed the national speed limit don't automatically need help. Those who have taken the next steps beyond the standard driving test will be vaugely familiar with where that little statement comes from because 'advanced' driving tuition and testing deals with that area frequently and in great detail. People can drive vehicles every bit as dangerously at 25mph as can at 75mph. And what distinguishes the observant thoughtful folks from those who aren't thinking beyond thier own windscreen is usually as obvious at sub 20mph as it is at 100mph plus. And I include many non traffic police car antics with that and the occasional traffic car too. I absolutely kid you not! Almost every time I travel I invariably wish desperately at some point that I had a recording camera mounted in my car capturing the stupidity. Well, that or a gatling gun each end.

I dispair at it all really. I am always learning because the learning never truly ends, but many drive like they know it all but didn't actually learn anything. Thats all I really want to say on the subject of driving/rage etc.

I don't get this, why do people get wound up for you wanting to drive faster than them, can't say I've ever seen someone flashing someone here for overtaking...

Doesnt bother me at all, but I do find it amusing when you overtake someone then they blatently take you back just to be a pain.

Most annoying thing, well only thing really, is when I'm in a queue behind a lorry or something on an NSL road, and someone decides to overtake into a space there isn't. Queuejumping so-and-sos :(

I think some people see an overtake as you saying "you're going to slow" or "learn to drive loser", depending how mental the person is. Based on this, the driver will react with something like "I'll show you slow" or "You think I can't drive, watch this!". It all depends how the person perceives the overtake.

You do know your not meant to overtake whilst going past a junction? That's probably why they flash you!

Not overtaking but another rant. Does anyone get annoyed when people cut the queues at roundabouts, they go into the wrong approach lane and then proceed to cut up the people who were in the correct lane on the actual roundabout. Last time this happened we all refused to let the person in and they had to go back round the roundabout and approach in the correct lane. Some people are ME ME ME.

I was overtaken by a woman in a Volvo the other day, who 10 seconds after overtaking me slowed to a complete stop and then pulled off the B road into her drive way.

Very odd behaviour...

There are many situations in which you would be the tool if you did this! I know plenty of country roads with junctions. If this driver doesn't pass you on the straight before the junction, he could be stuck behind you for miles on the bendies. Are you the tool, or was the overtaker?

I sometimes do this with the express aim of going round the roundabout. The strange thing is that if you think about it, and if the person at the front of the queue is sharp enough, then I am helping the flow of traffic on the road I just came from. I'm not sure that it's actually allowed mind you.

I must a boring ******* lol. 19 and I could not care less if overtaken. If anything, it gives me confidence to pick up my speed confident the pigs will get them first xD
